b18b head + b20b block + turbo = good?

I was just thinking about this, and I wasn't sure if it was worth doing or anything. I'm not a motor guy, so I thought I'd ask here - could you do this, and would it yield better results w/ turbo than b20vtec w/turbo, or is it just a stupid idea?

b18b and b20b engines have the same exact head

b20b turbos can put out some big numbers

if anything do b20 w/ b18b intake manifold, because CRV one wont clear the hood. But if you're going turbo you could use the b18b kit to fit your b20 and get some kick ass power

So why haven't I heard of more people doing that? Swapping in a b20 and putting a b18b intake manifold on it, and using a b18 turbo. It'd be much cheaper than b20vtec, I'd imagine, and would be better for turboing...

Oh, and does anyone else think this is a rip? This is for a turbo b20vtec job - "the engine will cost $3000. the tranny will cost $1300, ecu will cost $450. the turbo kit will start at $3000 and climb depending on who you go with. labor for installation is $1000 for swap, $750 for turbo and $500 for electricals."

what trans? LSD+GSR/Type-R?
Definetly sounds high, but personally I wouldnt go w/ Vtec head. No need for it if you getting turbo, plus it will lower the cost.
BTW w/ CRV swaps almost everyone is getting skunk2 manifold.
Install prices are high too. swap should run you about 500-700. dont know about turbo install but 500 bucks seems fair. What electrical stuff you need? couple wires for TT maybe some boost regulator stuff nowhere close to 500 tho.

This is Mahdavi Motorsports in Atlanta, the place making the CR-NSX. THat's a quote from their messageboard. I mean, they charge 1000$ for a b16a swap into my car (97 civic DX).
So, say a b20b engine with skunk2 manifold, for what kind of price? And what kind of turbo would you recommend? I've been hearing that Fmax is the best, with rev hard right under that. Also, I wonder what kind of building would need to be done on the internals of the engine. I'm going to have like 6 or 7 thou, so I'm hoping that all this will fall into that price range.

ive never heard of those two turbo companies, they got sites?? What about the greddy gsr or si kits, theyd probably work cept for the fmu due to the vtec...just sell the fmu and get hondata to rewrite your fuel maps on your stock ecu and youre set...

Um, I'd prefer to go with Fmax or Rev Hard over Greedy. :hehe:

:) i agree
a grand is kind of high, most places charge less, but its up to you. Skunk2manifold can be found everywhere for 300 and even less if used or some good find.
Building bottom end would depend on how much power you want, but its always good to built it as much as you can afford. you should be able to build bottom end for 2K or so.

Yeah this is the plan - with 7000$. 700$ for the swap + turbo installation at a shop other than mahdavi, 1000$ for the engine, 3300$ F-max or Rev Hard turbo. Actually, since they come with their own intake mans, I wouldn't have to buy the skunk2 would I? So that comes to about 5000$ out of 7000$. If I have them build it, take another grand out of that, and any extra bits and pieces and electrical junks with that last g. I think it'd be a good safe streetable engine at 10psi, wouldn't you? Even stock I'd think that, but I'm not sure.

ive got an 97 civic hatchback.
ive been thinking about buying a b20b block , and then a b18b gsr head to put on the block,im gonna try to make it an all aftermarket engine with turbo,i would like it to be vtech, would this fit my car?

would a b16 head be better on it than a b18 or not?
