about 2 years ago i came into some problems so i sold a few kits ! Well they just happen to pop up in Lowrider bicycle magzaine and then they are seen on SoCals web site and the guy states that he custom built them and he done all the paint work and this and that and even goes as far as to say that is was his frist built tuner and what not ! even to top all that off he stopped payment on a 300.00 dollar check for 1 of the kits ! The gull of the man that doesnt build but only buys and then takes them to shows and Lie that he built them , i would like to stand next to him and ask him how he did it and what he used just to hear him make it up as he goes LOL! just in case anyone here from Cali, attend the Socal Nationals or the low left coast watch out for these kits cause he didnt build them, paint them , he just bought thme and I as a builder thank the builder should enter contest , Hell anyone 1 can buy a kit and carry it to shows its the builder that puts in the time and the hours ! Well here are the kits to look for ! And if anyone want to pull the bull shit car on this i got photos of these car on my work bench to back them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

soory for the rant but this just blows me up ! i have sold a few kits and the respect of the buyers have said that this kit was bought and named me as the builder !But i guess when he put in print that he was the builder and he had done all this work ,IMO thats not fare to the other builders at the contest , was happy to here that the took top awards for there class , but i think that a builder of his own kits should of had won !

Again sorry i just wanted you all to know incase you attend any of the events that they maybe at !

What a dousche...like all these ricer fag kids here..They show off their car, but forget to mention they had them built for them :headshake Raaaaaaagghr!! Most contests require that the entrants affirm that they built the car themselves, though there's little that can be done to check up on them. Not only is this guy being unfair to you, but he is being unfair to the other entrants to the contest. Extremely unfair. Imagine how mad you would be if someone beat you with a model that they bought - I would be more mad about that than someone using models they bought from me. Nevertheless, you are well within the right to be very mad about it. If I were you, I would see if I couldn't find an email address for the folks that put that show on, and let them know. They may or may not be able to do something about it, but it's worth letting them know especially if the guy returns the following year. Not only will it give them an opportunity to censure the guy for lying, but it will give the club that organizes the contest the opportunity to make their contest as fair as possible, and they will be grateful. Be sure, though, to mention that as a reason to take action, they will be more likely to move on it if they can see it is in their best interest (though I can't imagine why they wouldn't, anyway). Good luck! and if I ever see this guy, I'll be sure to call him out.

Understandably so. I can see where all you hard work and labor goes unnoticed and unappreciated. I would find a way to write to the comission of that contest, and show them proof that you were the one who created the model, not the person who claimed they did, and have his award and honor removed.

I'll bring my ban stick to the next show I go to just in case. I'll brand his forehead with "FRAUD"

Do you have any in-progress shots? if so, send them in to the contest organizers and make sure you give them the guy's name.. if you don't have in-progress shots, I don't think there's much you can do about it other than be mad.

Back up your information as much as possible, and contact the sources where you saw this guy fraudulently claiming your car as his. That show was the last one apparently, but someone probably knows how to contact the organizer, and the magazine needs to know about this too. Be polite and professional and show as much proof as possible, especially if you have in-process shots of the models being built. Good luck, it sucks when someone does this crap.

GTMike...unless you hit a show in the LA area, you won't get a chance to brand Mr. Velazquez...if that's his real name  .

Ok Bob, lets say he comes to NNL05 in November. Then we can CA his mouth shut, and Wes can get on the PA and yell that hes a fraud.

Hey, David, I remember seeing those cars somewhere. I think I've got pics somewhere. I'm curious to what name is on there.

You have every right to be mad! That is a very low act on the part of that Velazquez character. Did he collect any awards with your models?

There is a little known trim level of the Civic called the CX, available in the hatch and I think only in 1996-1997. What made the CX a CX was the SOHC non-vtec DX motor coupled to a continuously varable transmission. The shifter said "Forward, Neutral, Backward"

Now, this Edgar Valasquez must have thought this was a model of the very rare Civic Ci. This car had the Si B16 motor, coupled to a special continuously variable transmission which made it immensely efficient on the track and took away the trouble of shifting here through turns and the like, making a very fast track car that always had power on demand because it was able to more effectively keep in the powerband since it never had to shift, and could always be at the optimal drivetrain efficiency for the speed it was going.

Edgar Valasquez is indeed a very learned individual.

It's sad that someone feels the need to take credit for other people's work; especially at a model competition. It's similar to someone submitting a Michelangelo at a local art contest.
In the future, you might want to be more careful about ensuring the payment clears before delivering your work. $300 is a lot to lose as well as the time and energy you put into those amazing models. Second, I would advise you to include a bill of sale with your models. This would prove that the model was purchased and not built by the individual. You could even put in a clause stating that the model can be displayed at shows but cannot be entered into any contests unless credit is given to the builder. This not only protects yourself, but also the other participants in the contest. Also, including pictures with the bill of sale will make it that much easier to thwart his chances winning contests fraudelently.

You have the right to me mad but once you transfer possession of the model to someone else, you have no control over what they do with it.

I saw those models at the So Cal Classic. (The Civic is featured in the newest issue of Model Cars Magazine, maybe a public open letter from you to the magazine is in order?)
Unfortunately I think I also saw the Monte Carlo at my show (Cruisin' For A Cure Model Car Contest) too.
It sticks in my mind because it was a different level of building than his other entries and the other judges and myself asked him about some of the details and how he executed them, especially about the window engraving.
He claimed he did it with an X-acto himself, (we have clearly stated in the rules, All Entries Must Be The Sole Work Of The Entrant!).
After the contest was over, he admitted his friend, who also entered the contest had done the engraving. A new lie apparently.
Too bad for all involved, but I think anyone caught doing such a thing needs to be called on it, and banned from entering any contest... - Mark

David, did you also do one with a nude lady reclining too? I seem to remember one on a red GM intermediate rear window at the first CFAC contest, the one time it was at El Toro Marine Base. - Mark

Hey Dave, your Civic is in fact in Car Model Magazine on page 33. this guy claims he built it in 4 months. installed a NOS system and painted it with HOK paint. thats what he said in the little blurb. so he is infact taking out right credit for your work. sorry man this must be frustrating for you. :disappoin

David, I just got wind of your post. I am sorry that this has happened. I should have recognized your work, and I appologize for not making the connection. I don't know what we can do, there are so many models out there and we usually leave it up to the person entering the model to tell the truth. I would like to ask if you could send me a letter in an email, addressing this issue. I know I may open a can of worms, but I don't think it is right, or maybe even legal, for someone to do what has been done here. The contests usually have an entry form that is signed by the person, and that may be a legal document or contract. I am not an attorney (paralegal for 9 years though), so I can't give legal advice, and I really don't know if there would be any legal recourse for this. I would like to have this issue brought up, though. I know your work, David, I have admired it for years at the Heartland Shows. Again, I'm sorry about this happening to you.
