As far as an increase in power, I think they're all pretty much the same. As far as making one yourself, do what you gotta do, but just don't show anyone. K&N seems to be a popular choice...

They will all give you about the same amount of hp, it's just comes down to a matter of price and/or looks. I was looking at this intake (http://www.rpmoutlet.com/newgmcsuv.htm) but ended up going with the AEM (got a deal at a local speed shop). Goodluck!

Metal retains heat longer than a plastic or PVC. Why keep the heat around your incoming air when all engines get better performance and mileage from cold air than hot. So metal looks better????? Wow...

I got a K&N and it seems to be pretty good....I got a pretty good deal on it so it made sense.......If I were to do it all over I would definitely make my own as I've seen some friends make pretty trick looking intakes that cost them under $50. They also appear to work as good as my K&N.......to each his own i guess..........

Just throwin my 2 cents in.. the metal / plastic intake has been debated a million times over. What's the difference, like 1hp and maybe .05 mpg :shakehead The air that is coming in from the filter to the TB is in the tube for about a second, it must heat up at least 30 degrees in that time

Well if Chemistry and Science are debates then why does your truck have an air to fuel ratio in the computer not a "Wheel of Fortune" for gas injection on your dash?

.5 MPG may not be something to you but to others it could be a lot. Fuel will mix better with cooler denser air, fact. Your truck will run better with cool air, fact.

The air in my truck goes through the plastic air cleaner box, not metal mass air sensor, throttle plate, throught the plastic runners into the heads. That would be more plastic than metal as older trucks used to be. Your truck is a package and the parts make the sum of the parts. Throw in a few pieces that don't work as well as others and the sum is less than it could be. If you follow the theme, plastic, you might see the sum is greater with plastic. Each to his own. Thank you for the momentary elevation to soap box status, now to find my hole to crawl into....

DAMN, that's a REALLY good idea! How freakin' awesome would it be to have a Wheel of Fortune on your dash? Seriously, that would kick so much ass.

Im sorry, you win. I was just giving some ideas to 99silverado32 as to what kind of intakes are out there... guess I shoulda stuck to my camaro which ran low 12s @ 112+ mph with a metal CAI :sly:
