1989 V6 died and won't start back up?!?!?iliketigobittys 05-15-2005, 10:10 AM I purchased my 89 V6 about four months ago with 200K+ miles for $1500. The guy I bought it from had good records of what he had done to it and when it had been done. He replaced the timing chain about 15K before I bought it (before it broke). I really like the truck. The other night I pulled stop and the Trooper acted as if I had let the idle get too low, like it wasn't getting enough gas, and it died. It would not restart. When this happened it was low on gas and oil. I was planning on changing the oil the next day, and getting gas in a few minutes. I put gas and oil in it and it still won't start. Here's what I know: It is getting spark; it is getting gas; it will turn over(it's not locked up). When it turns over it acts like it wants to start, but won't. It also has a little bit different noise coming from the motor than it normally does when trying to start. Any ideas or advise would be greatly appreciated. macdad626 07-11-2005, 10:50 PM This same thing happend on my car and what is happening is it wants to turn over but doesnt because of little or no compression on the cylinders. Things that cause this are head gasket or cracked head. Check your oil and make sure it doesnt have antifreeze in it if it does its a head gasket. I wouldnt rule out the timing could also be way off.I reccomend the first thing you do is compression test your engine vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
