steve longo 04-06-2006, 03:24 PM yes, most definitly kd5nip 04-07-2006, 09:20 AM I'm not sure what ya'll aruging about. my 99 f-150 has 194000 miles, been totaled 1 rebuilt left front(frame bent), then 2 yrs ltr smashed front end for total #2. I have not rebuilt from that one yet. Not sure if i will, i like the feature of people moving outa my way on the road. Great Truck and will buy F-250 next. frost110 04-13-2006, 02:00 PM No, My family has had 3 Fords, everyone has had problems at pretty much the exact same mileage. That and they give poor gas mileage and all the old ones very noisey and break down quite a bit. After driving a Toyota Tacoma I will no longer buy any other type of vehicle. It ran smoother with a lot less problems than my ford ever did/will. So long Ford. Toyota has you beat. --FrosT wafrederick 04-20-2006, 08:23 AM Where do the profits go building Toyota trucks here? To Japan and that is wrong! The advantage of the domestic truck builder like GM,Ford and Dodge, the profits stay here. There is one thing to do to a 1997 and up Ford f series trucks and expeditions, get the windshield resealed. There is a flaw around the sealing area of the windshield when it was built and water gets inside the dash area and ruins the GEM module. You lose the wipers, lights, everything in the dash area. There is a tsb on that and Ford has not done anything on this.I have heard of this twice so far street car fanatic 04-20-2006, 06:56 PM i only like 90s f 150s and ofcoarse the lightening eti engineer 04-30-2006, 11:43 PM I have driven five Fords in my life -- 4 company trucks and one Ford Granada with all different types of trannies and engines in them. Every one of them has had the same issues -- tranny problems, engine problems, funny tire wear that can't be corrected, crappy suspension and handling, those damn composite pistons in the brake calipers that wear out the pads and warp the rotors, steering problems and more. I have owned two Datsun trucks and one Chevy S-10, with the 4.3 liter engine (which I have modified slightly),and it will blow away Fords and Dodge V-8's all day long. I do it all the time. I have almost 90,000 miles on my Chevy and have only replaced the alternator. The last Ford I owned cost my company about 100 dollars for every 1000 miles to keep it running. Would I own a Ford?? Ain't no f------ way, but I would take it over a Dodge anyday... Later.... eti engineer thafreek86 06-25-2006, 10:18 AM My dad had a 93 ford f150 and it had about 230k miles on a 5.0 engine. but the only thing he ever really had a problem with was a water pump and he put in a new oil pump and pan.. but that truck was a very good reliably (SEXY) truck... me on the other hand had and still have a 89 F-150 Supercab with a 5.8L 351W... i had driven the truck about 6 months when i started loosing oil pressure and then had a rodknock because of that.. well I took it to one of my dads friends who HAD a shop and he had tha truck for about 6 months rebuilding the engine.. he said they had to bore it out 40 over because it was so burnt.. when i got it back it was running very ruff and would stall if i didn't keep givin it gas... the mechanic told me to drive it around and break in the new engine and bring it back to him to give it a tune up... well since then i've bought a car and a truck which are dodge.. because i paid 2000$$ for that rebuild and the truck runs like shit and there is a short somewhere that will keep the starter going and eventually drain my battery.. i know not much about engines or how to fix them.. oh ya.. and even after my engine was rebuilt that whole oil pressure thing still kept droppin... i love fords and was always raised as a ford kid but tha first ford i owned i got screwed on.. now i know it isn't fords fault but still.. i bought a 95 dodge intrepid and have never had a problem and recently bought a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and well i got tha ext. warrenty just in case gbic1 06-25-2006, 01:00 PM Think it is time to find a different Mechanic. thafreek86 06-26-2006, 08:15 PM yupp this i know.. i'm actually lookin at a new mechanic around where i live now.. he seemed willing to do the work but i'ma test him out on my car first.. see his quality of work and total price Capt.Moe 06-30-2006, 11:14 PM Okay so I wouldn't buy another ford truck agian. not even if my life depended on it. But I am fond of my 1977 with a 351M Auto 4wd short box Reg Cab... I love that little truck... Reasons for not buying a for truck. Mom's got a 1997 f250 superduty... on it's 3rd trans. My work runs fords... we've got 5 service trucks... oldest one being a 1998 f350 dually v10. newest an 03 f350. All gas pots. Aslo have a 1999f350 and a 2001f250 and a 2000 f350. The picker's had 3 motors 2 trannys and 4 rearends... Both 2000 and 2001's have had 2 master cylinders put in. The 1999's had a motor and a pair of tranny's in them. The 03's seen 2 rear ends and a transmission. Not to mention the electrical gremlins out the ass. Also the f250 seem's to be breakin' in half.... My dad's owned Dodges all his life... hehad a 1991 Kota with a 318 only thing he had to do to that was a fuel pump. He currently owns a 1999 2500 Cummins turbo diesel (It is not a ford built motor. Ford attemtpetd to buy out Cummins so they would stop producing motors for Dodge. Thus the common missconception that it's a ford built motor.) He's had to put a Injector pump in it. truck has 200,000Km's on it and is used and abused daily as a work truck. it weighs in at 9900lbs. and has 650HP to the crank. Still sees' 20MPG out of it.... All the ford diesel owners I know. Doesn't matter what they are doing... (talking 1991-1996 I think?) they get 15mpg. billheis 07-20-2006, 02:29 PM I've got a 94 F150 Lightning and love it. Has 144,350 on the odometer and other than lousy MPG its great! Bill pgcobalt83 07-21-2006, 01:29 PM I have always been a chevy man. I always have loved chevy trucks. However, I had a 2001 F150 with the 4.2L 6 cylinder in. I absolutely loved that truck. At the same time My father got an 01 silverado with their 4.3L 6 cylinder in it. He loved my truck better than his. It out performed the chevy in every thing. It looked better, hauled better, and sounded better. I had no problems with it at all. The gas prices went up and I bought a car :( But I then proceeded to buy an 87 f150. Besides the rust I love the truck. I still love Chevy cars but as far as trucks go there is nothing better than a Ford!! Hope this helps eti engineer 07-29-2006, 12:34 AM Just got a brand new F-250 from the company and have put 10,000 miles on it and already I am having trouble with funny tire wear, tranny problems and drivetrain noise. In the meantime, my S-10 is close to 100,000 and the only thing that has been replaced, as I said before is the battery and alternator. and it will still walk away from Fords and Dodges at the stoplight, except for maybe the HEMI. Like I said before, ain't no way I would buy a Ford car or truck. The quality sucks. eti engineer 08-11-2006, 11:03 PM Guess what??!! The new F250 the company bought for me is now leaking oil and staining my driveway. It has 12,000 miles on it now, so I guess that is to be expected?? It has the 5.4 liter engine and it appears to be the rear main seal. Anyone else have this problem?? This is reminiscent of the old 351 engines. Seems like I had to replace the rear seal every 10,000 miles or so... Would I own another FORD?? Whaddya think??? I asked the company for a Chevy, but no luck.... Later... 2crunk 08-12-2006, 02:07 AM Anytime, Anyday. I've owned and driven Fords for years. Most of the problems i read on this thread are from older vehicles or high mileage trucks. Look at what your buying first. The name doesnt make a good truck, proper maintenance and scheduled service does. Since i've bought my Lariat F-150 Supercrew 5.4L i have had ZERO problems, gas mileage is great considering the displacement/power of the engine, handling is magnificent for a 4dr pick up, and is actually pretty quick for weighing in @ over 5K pounds. If you buy a brand new vehicle, you really cant go wrong with the 3 valve 5.4L. If its used, be sure you do a thorough inspection or have a trusted mechanic check it out for you. I love my truck and wouldn't recommend anything else. usar89b 08-23-2006, 10:04 PM I bought my '96 F150 Eddie Bauer in '98 with 38,000 miles on it. I do hardwood flooring for a living and use my truck for work. I have filled the bed with alot of different heavy stuff from a full pallet of Red Oak to a bedload of mortar and tile. I have never had a problem with the rear springs or suspension. I now have 298,000 miles on it, and have done no internal engine work. The truck still looks brand new when washed, and runs perfectly. So, to answer the question, I will buy another Ford truck when I need one, until then mine is perfect.:naughty: 2eyefishclaw 10-04-2006, 11:33 PM the best thing I ever used one of my FORD p/u trucks for was to pull 3day old chevy and boat out of the boat launch yep I really felt like I was the man of the day with my real mans truck EddieK47 10-05-2006, 04:30 PM Yes,my ford ranger,99 extended cab, is just great. It's a good little 1/4 ton truck that needs beefing up in the rear springs................EXCEPT the 98 + 99 Ford Ranger4x4 hubs are Garbage.I can't believe Ford dosen't have a recall on them or even offer a manual lockout hub kit to replace them. vixkix69 10-13-2006, 12:27 PM My ford has 170,000 miles on it.No problems at all!!! Will ONLY buy Ford trucks!![although I think the big Chevy trucks are prettier and ride smoother] 2.2 Straight six 10-23-2006, 10:05 AM I bought my '96 F150 Eddie Bauer in '98 with 38,000 miles on it. I had nothing but problems, and no sevice. I bought a 2002 f150 w/ the 5.4, and have only had to do an alignment. GO WITH THE FORD!!! You hate chevy so much, you bought a new one 6 times??? Yeah that makes since. I owned a 91 F150.. I had more problems with that truck then I did with my ex-wife. But..it only took one truck for me to switch to Chevy and I have never looked back. I am on my 2nd chevy truck, I am at 150K miles and running strong. It is like what some of the other people on this post already stated. They all have there faults, I have just had better luck with Chevy's mitcha 11-10-2006, 03:28 PM I have had 6 Fords ranging from 1976 to 2005. Hope to be around to own 6 more. alotech 11-17-2006, 09:24 PM My dad bought new a 67 custom 100 with 3 on the shaft. It was mine when I started to drive in 77. I had it until 79 when I got me a 77 t-bird w/ that 400 cbi engine. Dad got back his 67 100. In 83 I bought a chevy 1 ton w/ 454 4BBL engine. It got great mileage since it got around mostly on the back of a wrecker. (no kidding, the tow truck company started giving me their fleet discount). One day I told the wife that I was going out to get the tranny fixed on the duelly. When I came home, I was driving a brand new 87 F150 XLT Lariot. She was not mad. The only time that truck has seen a wrecker was when she wrecked it. She is now my ex. I got it fixed and today I still drive it. Planning on giving it to my son to drive and he is 14. My everyday car is a 99 CVPI. Owned an escort and let it go when I got the crown vic. After the 77 T-Bird, I have also owned 2 others since that. My current fleet is an 87 F150, 99 CVPI, and 96 Contour which I think was designed by the same guys who did the Pinto. It's my problem child. PS. My dad kept the 67 custom 100 until it was stolen in 93. He bought him an 87 F150 from a co-worker before he retired and he still drives it today with his 2003 Lincoln. 2crunk 11-17-2006, 11:47 PM .....and 96 Contour which I think was designed by the same guys who did the Pinto. It's my problem child.... Just wondering, i have a '96 contour with the 2.0L Zetec, only had a couple minor problems with it since buying it. What types of things are happening with yours? vixkix69 11-20-2006, 09:15 AM Our 2000 f150 has nearly 200,000 miles on it [I posted when this thread began],but we had 89 and 93 f150s that were trash.I would NEVER recommend ford cars except for the crown vic and maybe the mustang.:2cents: My hubby just bought an 04 Titan, and it already has probs [31,000 miles],but we really like it. I guess all vehicles have issues, but the 2000 f150 that we have has really held up. I know people with Rams and Silverados with 200,000 or more miles, too. It is just a matter of taste and maybe, luck of the draw. HI JOHN 12-29-2006, 03:38 AM Here is the deal! I've been converted to Ford. I was a Jap. kind of guy. I though the Japs had the best cars ever until I purchase my 98 Expedition EB 4.6. I purchased the truck new. It now has 172K and no lie, this is all the things I have done to it since new. 1 oxygen sensor. I have replaced the usual stuff, fluids, brakes, tieres. I still have all original, hoses, even the Delco battery!, starter, alternator. I change the plugs at 100k along with the wires. Man I tell you this truck rocks! My wife and I purchased a 05 Explorer and will run it till it dropes in maby 20 years. We have a 97 Isuzu Rodeo which is great too. Will stick with Ford Trucks for a very long time. BTW. CD changer does not work. I have never even had a flat tire. Knock on wood things keep this way! midgetracing28 01-15-2007, 05:40 AM Theres only one chevy truck I would ever buy again and thank god my uncle doesnt want to sell it. It caused me nothing but problems. Ive owned several fords and I have had better luck with them than anyone else I know has. My poor little 94 ranger has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. After being run off the road down a 20 foot drop into a field the damn thing fired back up and got me home safe with a bent radius arm and axle, cracked spindle, busted shock, and bent frame. After replacing what is basically the entire front suspension she still runs and drives great although the bumper is still bent along with a minor tweak in the frame. The only downside is she wears tires down a little faster than normal. My F250 has never had a serious problem. Its 460 just chugs along without a care in the world. It rides rough but I only use it to pull a car trailer b/c she doesnt get very good gas mileage. I honestly dont think I will ever buy a chevy. I am just one of those people they dont like and refuse to work right for. Ill just have to stick with that good old blue oval. wolf9304 02-22-2007, 07:17 AM i have an 88 f150 302 fuel injected and i havent had any major problems with it i even took out my converters and ran straight pipes for the exhaust and didnt have any problems when i did this either and as far as the getup and go on my truck im very satisfied with it oh my odometer rolled over twice and now says 98000 miles on it its ready to go for the third time around so i guess ill stick with ford bigredneck47240 02-24-2007, 01:18 PM ive owned fords since i was old enough to drive ive owned 2 chevy's and 1 dodge and they are all the same some have more power but they all have thier minor problems ez2plz 02-26-2007, 10:48 PM I work for a city of about 500,000 people. The city buys whatever is the cheapest bid as far as trucks go. Through the years I've driven all three major brands. Every Dodge I've had has been towed at least 3 times. The Chevys seem to wear out transmissions a lot and need more maintainence then the other two. The Fords are always kept longer and very sought after at the annual auctions. Remember these trucks are driven by many different drivers who don't really care about how bad they abuse them. It just seems the Fords stand up better. skibo1 03-04-2007, 03:13 PM i am a tech at a ford dealer and i drive a chevy to work. not too much wrong with 97-03 f150s but i do make alot of money off of them b/c of the common coil problems and idle problems on them. my 99 z71 has 170,000 miles on it and its still goin like a rock. bottom line, if u buy a ford then you prob come see me. love my chevy manlystanley 03-04-2007, 05:27 PM Well, don't own a F150, just a Ford Ranger. However, since I'm so pleased with my ranger, I'll probably move up to a F150 someday. It has been a very good truck. I just recently changed the clutch and the rear differential gears (3:08 to 3:73) because I pull a 5000# 21 ft. deck boat. I was going to upgrade to the F250 diesel but after looking at the 2007 Toyota Tundra I may have to change my mind. I am not particulary brand loyal as I have owned 3 fords, a Pontiac, an Oldsmobile, a Chevy, a Geo:banghead: and 2 Toyotas. I will say though that Ford builds an exceptional truck.:grinyes: FOMOCOpeq 03-10-2007, 08:53 PM Can anyone tell me what the cylender sequence is on a triton 5.4. My dad bought it approx. 1980, then I bought it from him in 1991, truck ran fine for years, wasn't until it passed 100k miles that it started having problems. I babied it along replacing parts as they died, the thing nickeled and dimed me to death. I finally sold it a few years ago, I still see it around town from time to time. I have no experience or knowledge of the newer trucks, I have been told that the best trucks that Ford ever made were from the late 1970s but I don't know for sure. I currently own a 1999 Suzuki Esteem, this car has been a dream, it just rolled 110k miles, besides regular maint. (oil, filters, brakes, etc.) I have had to replace one $92 part. Generaly when some one has had so much problems with a truck it is because they or someone before them wooped it badly or did not service it correctly. I have owned at least 7 Ford trucks and one was a POS and others were mostly good. I owned on GMC and it was junk. Of course it was a 1967 with a 305 V6 with three on the tree. Would I not buy another GMC because of it , no. I repair cars for a living and most new stuff is good. I personally not care for some of the newer Fords 97 to 03. But I make alot more money on S10s and Blazers than I do on the Rangers and Explorers. I sold my last F250 ( because I wanted a 4 door) with 235K and never had a valve cover off or rebuilt the transmission. 3 sets of brakes and one set of shocks 3 tunes ups. Did not leak or burn oil. But I bought it from the orignal owner and I serviced it since it was out of factory warranty. The guy I bought it from has a fleet of Ford trucks all with over 200K on them. It is mostly what you like. Besides, my kids get a kick out of driving some thing older than them. bobalbrecht 05-31-2007, 06:26 PM Yes, but a diesel. dham47 06-04-2007, 06:58 PM I have a cherry 1995 f-150 ext. cab 4x4 and fire engine red. I have never had any problems with it. In fact I am looking to sell it now and move up to a 250. I need a little more power to pull my travel trailer. The 302 just doesnt have the power I want. I never owned a ford until I bought the truck. Now I have three. Im gonna look for a v-10. Enjoy shopping. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
