Top Quality Alarms for Convertibles...??

Hello,

I was looking for some input on manufacturers who make very high quality and intelligent automotive security systems that don't beep just because the wind blew too hard. I'm looking for one that has an parameter zone that extends the area of where the convertible top would normally reside. I would want this alarm to warn a potential scum bag who decides to reach inside the vehicle via a slight chirp or two. If the maggot continually makes attempts to enter this parameter the car should then scream bloody murder if they didn't learn their lesson.

In addition to the above mentioned feature it should also include all the typical stuff like hood sensors, shock sensors, starter kill, valet mode...etc..etc

Does such a beast exist and if so who makes it. If I can't find an alarm of this nature I may just have to rely on my H&K .45 Auto for vehicle security.....

Thanks for any info you can provide

They're the best when it comes to alarms. Clifford lines tend to be top notch however the new Python lines are really cool. the new Python 900 has 2way LCD remotes and you can do things like remotely adjust the sensitity and stuff like that.

No matter what alarm you pick, you'll have to add on extras like you talked about. Things like the prox sensors are a must on converts. Also if you have a real nice ride especially with rims, I like to sell digital tilt sensors. They'll "set" their degree of tilt when you arm the alarm then if it's tilted a certain percent, it'll go off. Other things to look for would be battery backup, mercury switches on hood and trunk, and wireless imobolizers.

alpine's sec-150r it has the proximity sensor (radar bubble)built-in all the rest of the alarm systems such as viper, clifford, code alarm, etc. you would have to purchase that radar sensor seperate. its not a bad alarm i used to sell the all the time to converables and jeeps. i hope this helps you

That prox. sensor on the Alpine units suck. They work OK if you do not have extreme weather changes but if you do, the field area changes. So, getting it to work well here in Ohio is a pain.

Besides, I'd stay away from any of the Alpine units since they stopped making car alarms. Yes, they did have some nice features but quality and ease of use forced them to fail in the alarm markets.

The most reliable car alarms that I know of come from DEI, the makers of the VIPER and Sidewinder alarm systems. The trouble with perimeter sensors is that they can be suseptible to hot and cold, which will kind of toss off the adjustments a little. Dark tinted windows are also an issue, as the signal from the sensor can't penetrate that tint too well. Perimeter sensors do okay on convertible cars, though. Just make sure to set the inner zone more sensitive, and not the outer zone, or you'll have a ton of false alarms. As far as features go, hands down...Cliford G4/G5 technology is the best. Also made by DEI (at least now anyway, since DEI bought Cliford a few years ago). It's a bit more expensive, but worth it. Viper, Sidewinder and Clifford also all have the option of a 2 way transponder remote that'll beep on your remote keychain if anyone gets around your car and triggers the alarm.
