1998 Taurus SE Stalls When Put In Drivejoesm13 05-11-2005, 07:50 PM This is a repost, drdisque had a good guess, but it turned out not to be the problem. He suggested that the Idle Air Control Valve could be the culprit. I cleaned the original. When that didn't work I replaced it. Nothing changed. Anyone have another direction I may try? Thank you. Hello, I hope someone can give me some advice. Here goes: 1998 Taurus SE Duratec 24 Valve v6 94,000 miles No Warning Lights Come On Starts just fine, idles fine, revs when I step on gas in park or neutral As soon as I put in ANY gear it stalls. First time it stalled was when I entered a turn lane and had to stop, the RPMs dropped, it vibated a little, then stalled. Everything else seems fine. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. joesm13 05-20-2005, 07:46 PM UPDATE: It is the tork converter. I was told it will cost around $2,200 to fix!!! That is to put in a new transmission. I think I am going to sell it instead. I hope you guys don't have the same problem. island 05-25-2005, 07:46 PM UPDATE: It is the tork converter. I was told it will cost around $2,200 to fix!!! That is to put in a new transmission. Make sure that you TR sensor is not bad also know as neutral saftey swich, had same problem car would not stall, but radio would cut out when put into reverse or drive, and would not shift out of first gear. Cvkitty76 05-30-2005, 01:03 PM Hi. I have the exact same problem with my 98 taurus LX. it started last year may 2004 and it died all the time until oct 2004 when it got cold outside. then this past week it started to die again. Last summer i had $3400 in work done. It was not the transmission. AAMCO said it was and did the $2200 work and it still is dying. I also had the idle motor replaced, the fuel injector system cleaned twice and did the 306090 maintance done. it is still dying. It seems when the car has been driving for a while or sitting in park with the air on, when I try to take off in drive or reverse it dies. It takes longer to die on N. No one can figure out what it wrong. I have 126500 miles on car. Do not do trannie unless they guarantee that they will find what is wrong after they do the trannie and find that is not the problem. That was my mistake after all that work they sent me to another mechanic and that mech wanted even more money to put it on another computer. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
