03 Grand Caravan (DEAD)DJBates 05-10-2005, 04:47 PM My 03 GC died going down the road. Dash lights work. Starter will not engage, but is fine. I have power at fuses and relays. Fuse link checks OK. OBD II says PASS (Sensors). Anyone have any ideas? If it is the computer is there anyway to check it before giving my first born for a new computer. I'm 4000 past warranty. Thanks in advance, DJBates GTP Dad 05-10-2005, 07:06 PM How did you test the starter? If it will not enage the solenoid probably went bad. Since the majority of the power for the vehicle goes through the solenoid then you may need to replace it. Otherwise, check the battery and the positive and ground cables. The ground cable is especially important. I really don't think the computer has gone bad especially since the starter won't engage. DJBates 05-10-2005, 07:35 PM took it off and to parts store. jumped a hot wire when on vehicle and started engaged but engine would not fire. This thing is driving me crazy. GTP Dad 05-11-2005, 06:41 AM If you got it to turn over and the engine would not run then there are several items to consider. 1. Is it getting fuel? 2. Is there spark? If either of the two are a no then we need to find the cause. Some things to check are the ignition module under the coils. Can go bad quickly and would stop all spark to the engine. Crank position sensor can also go bad causing the engine to stall and will not restart. This would also prevent spark generation from the coils. The cam position sensor is another culpret but not one I would worry about. Finally, on the fuel side the fuel pump can go while driving but not a common happening. If no fuel, the fuel pump will need replacing or possibly you have a blocked fuel filter. Of course the worst thing would be the computer. If you get to that level then I would check some wrecking yards for a used one rather than buying a reman or new one. Hopes this gives you some ideas on where to look! PS. One thing I forgot is a bad ignition switch. May not be making proper connections and will not allow the van to start. DJBates 05-11-2005, 06:05 PM Thanks a million guys. I decided to send it to the garage. If I would tie into it I would part myself to death, thats just me. But I sure do appreciate the advise. I won't swear to it but I believe something like the computer is warranteed for like 80000 miles because it is part of the emissions system . If you have a 03 with over 80000 miles then you do a lot of driving . Check the owners manual for warranty on this , i could be wrong . if I think of it i'll look at our 04 warranty . :-) vamc 05-20-2005, 02:40 PM DJBates, I have a quick quick question, I live in Medina Ohio, and i was talking to my friend that works in Lindale Police dept. He said that they can not persue a car that is doing 100mph. no persude policy. is it the same down there? Im good friends with him and all the cops over there. Lindale is in Cleveland. I took it to a mechanic and had to take it to a out of town dealership, Richart I believe, Cols, Ohio. They discovered the warrant on the computer. The dealership I purchased the van from didnt even ask how many miles, when did you purchase it, name, or what year it was. I asked them about a possible discount on a new one. They said "NO". Not even advised about a warranty on it. Balderson Dodge in Zanesville Ohio for anyone wondering. But getting it back today, thank goodness my wife is drivin me crazy. But thanks for the advise I do appreciate it alot. Each department is different depending on their pursuit policy, and the dangers they pose and create. Our policy says we are not to go over 55 MPH in a pursuit. (LOL) 100 MPH in the city way to dangerous, 100 on the interstate, sounds like fun to me. 100MPH who just murdered someone he's gettin chased. 100 MPH speeded, probably going to get caught in the next county. Hope that answers so of the question. vamc 05-26-2005, 09:17 PM It does. I knoe the highway pot. can persue cars over 100mph, but like anything else, if to many people in danger they will d/c the chase. Thanks, Andrew vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
