hey guys, i have a problem i hope you can help me with. i have a 1996 buick regal custom 3800 series ii, 108000 miles. recently, it's developed a problem in which i can start the car and it will crank and turn over, but then as soon as i release the key from the cranking position it dies. completely. none of the electrical components will work, and the car won't even click if i try to start it again. if i leave it alone for about 3 or 4 minutes, it seems to reset itself (everything comes back, the alarm turns itself on, the clock resets, etc.). the first time this happened, after everything reset the car started without any further problem. today, it did it again, and this time every time it reset the same thing would happen when i try to start it.

i don't know if this is relevant, but the first time i had this problem was on a cool, rainy day, and today is a cool, rainy day as well.

any ideas what the problem might be, and what i can do to fix it?

any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

I had the same problem. I have parked my car (same model, same year) in the front of Office Depot and when I left the store, nothing worked. No lights, no sounds, nothing. Car was completely dead. When I waited for my wife to pick me up the lights came on and I tried to start it but as soon as I turned the key everything died again.

Anyway, to make the long story short, it turned out to be the battery. Now I am driving for almost a week with new battery and have no problems at all.
