'83 F-250 Electrical IssuesNeelskit 05-08-2005, 02:05 AM I just inherited a 1983 F-250. The previous owner said that it wouldn't turn over. He already replaced the starter solenoid. I went to start it and the battery was completely dead. After giving the battery a good charge and cleaning the posts and clamps I got it to turn over. However, it still does not start. After attempting to start it 3 times (holding key in "start" for approx 5 secs.), the solenoid started to smoke. I let off the key and let it set for a minute or so to cool down. The next time I turned the key, the solenoid let out a few visible sparks. Now, it no longer turns over. No clicks or anything. Any suggestions??? Again, 83 F-250 5.7 351 carbed w/ dual tanks RWD AT. Thanks in advance!! Neelskit 05-17-2005, 11:00 PM Went and picked up a Haynes manual- discovered it has a 7.5L engine, not 5.8!!!! Also, bad ground from batt to frame. Also, solenoid was mis-wired casuing 2 fuse links to short. Now starts and runs! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
