What Engines

Hi all,

I have recently bought an 89 dodge daytona for $100.00, with a 2.5l tbi engine
that threw a rod. I would like to know which sizes, and year model engines can be put in without changing anything else. Im hoping to find an engine in a salvage yard that i can put in without too much trouble.

also a freind and i pulled the original engine from the top of the car with a cherry picker but it was a pain in the a**. will i be able to put one back in this way without damaging something?

A cherry picker is the only equipment i can get to lift with around here so i dont know how else i can do it.

I forgot to add that it has a 5speed manual transaxle

If you don't want to change anything else then you're going to have to find another 2.5L TBI. It would have to be an 89-94. I think they changed something in 1995.

You could always swap in any one of the turbo engines but you would want to pretty much swap everything under the hood.

i just bought another daytona for $100 that runs but needs a valve job. The body is a pile of junk so i wanted to put the engine into my 1989 which looks great and has a manual tranny!!! The problem is, the 92 appears to be dis (direct ignition system) and the 1989 has a distributor. What all will i have to take from the 92 model to make this work? Will i need to use the 1992 computer? will it work with the manual tranny? Could i possibly put my 1989 distributor into the 1992 engine to get around this?

sounds like the '92 has the 2.2 Turbo III motor. Your best bet, if you're looking for an engine, find a 2.5 from either a Caravan, Dodge Spirit or Dodge Shadow.

no, the 92 is throttle body injected. maybe i was mistaken and it has a distributor. but if it is a distributor it definately looks different than the one off my 89 daytona.

If the 92 distributor connections are the same as the 89 harness then you can use it, if not you can swap the 89 distributor in it's place and it will work fine.
