Hi everybody,

I hope that someone could help me.

I have a minor problem with my radio because I am using it in Europe. The radio which is original ford radio and works fine but it is on US mode, my car is Ford Taurus wagon year model 1998.

As you might know the FM radio frequency is about the same in USA and Europe but in Europe the radio stations might be much closer to each others.

For example if I try to find radio stations in Europe the radio does not find any stations which are sending the program in even frequency (e.g.106.2MHz)

If I am trying to put the frequency manual the nearest frequency are 106,1 or 106,3. US mode will use 50KHz step and Europe mode use 20KHz step

My question is how can I set the radio in Europe mode. Is the any buttons combination which I should press and at the same time switch on the radio.

I am quite confident that the tuner chip has also Europe program

Thanks in advance

the taurus was only built for the North American market and is not meant to be used in the European market, Its radio is not capable of moving in 20Khz steps.

Thanks for reply,
But my opinion is that this turner chip which is made by Siemens N700053BFSGHFA should be reprogrammed or it has in ROM European mode.

Other radios from USA can set to different mode suitable to use in Europe.
Or what do you think?

I also don't believe you are going to be able to make this change. As was said, the Taurus was built and manufacturered in North America and is not geared toward use in other countries.

I think the only chance you have is contacting a dealership and asking them. Since there are not instructions for switching modes in the owner's manual, then--if it's possible at all--it is probably a dealer programmable item; where you are, this is going to cost you some serious money, which I think would be far better spent on a relatively inexpensive aftermarket head unit that supports European tuning.
