I have a 2000 caravan with 65,947 miles. I have had the oil changed every 3K miles. At 60K, I noticed the engine was making a ticking sound. I took it in and was told the lifters were collapsing. Got that fixed. Sunday, I noticed the ticking sound was back. I checked the oil, there did not appear to be any on the dip stick, however the dip stick had what looked like cooked on oil fairly far up the stick. I added about 2 and a half quarts of oil, it was dark and I may have gotten a little too much in there, hope that's not a big problem. I have never had to add oil between changes before, I have not noticed any smoke that would indicate burning oil and I have not seen any puddles on the ground other than a few drops in the garage over night. Any ideas what the problem may be? I am going in to the dealer tomorrow or Wed. for the 66K service and would like to have some idea. Also, the manual recommends just an oil change at 66K, the dealer recommends a list of services including "Premium engine treatment". Anyone know what this is? They seem to recommend it every 6K to 12K miles. Sounds like a money maker for the dealer, but I readily admit I am no mechanic.
