97 3.0 sounds like ticking from lifters, also trans problem???supreme70 05-01-2005, 09:18 PM im wondering if you can adjust the lifters on a 3.0 motor or if I have to replace the lifters. Im getting a ticking from them but it goes away at higher rpm, ?? What to do???? Im also gettting a really slow shift into third gear when the trans cold, It wont shift until it warms up alittle but then it shifts fine all day long, I have changed filter and fluid. its a 3 speed trans no overdrive. please help me???? sandokana 05-02-2005, 08:36 PM Based on the repair manual the lifters can’t be adjusted so if the noise really bothers you the only thing you can do is to replace the adjusters. rksnc 05-02-2005, 08:46 PM Correct there is no adjustment. If you could get some BG MOA oil treatment it could help or cure the problem. But yea the only other way would be replace them. Now they are not cheap. Remember there are 12 of them. That could add up to a little bit of money. supreme70 05-02-2005, 09:21 PM do you mean replace the lifters or is there adjusters???? the lifter are ticking really loud and they never stop but there is oil on the top end so I figure the lifters went bad. sandokana 05-02-2005, 09:33 PM The proper name is hydraulic lash adjusters. The adjusters are installed in the openings in the rocker arm assemblies. rksnc 05-02-2005, 09:47 PM Well yes that is correct. They are valve lash adjusters. And yes they are in the end of rocker arm. But most people relate to them the same way. They still do the same job just from a different point. They will still behave just like valve lifters. They need oil, clean oil, and they pump up. There are some oil treatments that can helps clean dirty, sticky, lifters. I have seen the BG MOA do a great job at just this and with just this same engine. supreme70 05-03-2005, 11:04 PM What is BG MOA oil treatment ????? Never heard of it and where can I get it from????? Why have Murray auto parts, auto zone, Napa and advance auto here in Michigan, to choose from. rksnc 05-03-2005, 11:18 PM BG products are only sold to Repair shops and Dealerships. Ask around. BG is the company name, they make fuel cleaner 44k, oil additive MOA, trans conditioner ATC, they make an engine flush, Radiator flush. Here is a link to their site, http://www.bgprod.com/ Check it out. cgin59 05-09-2005, 11:25 AM I have the same problem. I rebuilt my 3.0 and the lifters rattle bad above 2000 rpm. I tried all the additives and a heavier oil. Still have the problem. I replaced the lifters too! $12 each x 12!! These lifters work funny. The new ones were stiff and would not compress. I had to use slip joint pliers to free them up before I put them in.The springs inside just aren't strong enough. Worked fine for about 15 minutes. Then they started to rattle again. I removed them to find that they had stiffened up again. Seems like when the fill up with oil, the compression action quits and the lifter freezes.(no longer absorbs the shock) When I get time, I'll remove them again and look for a solution. rksnc 05-09-2005, 07:23 PM They do not work on spring pressure, but oil pressure. The pressure the oil makes trying to callaps them. That is where the hydraulic comes from. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
