hey guys i am looking at a 1963 chevy impala ss 327 auto with the original engine but i dont know how much hp it has if it has the 250 engine or the 300 ??????

i tryed looking online and i could'nt find any thing
and i tryed looking on the engine but i have no idea where to look and i have no idea what i am looking for ?
if you guys can't help me by telling my by just the vin #
then could some one post some pictures and maybe give me an explanation of where to look it would help me out alot

i was just in barns and nobles yesterday and there was a book on chevy drivetrain identification. it listed everything to look for to know the horses. so id go to a bookstore and look. if im over there soon ill check it out and let u know

Main difference between a 250 and a 300 is the carburetor. Both use Carter carbs, the 250 has a tiny WCFB and the 300 a more normal-sized AFB.
If it looks like an Edelbrock carb but not as shiny it's an AFB.
If you can get a copy of Floyd Clymer's Corvette Sting Ray 1963-65 manual you will find plenty of illustrations of both carbs to help you identify.
