Gauge not right

My gas gauge all of a sudden is staying at the line right below full. Ihave driven over a 105 miles and so I know this isn't right. I tried turning the car off and on several times and now the gas gauge goes to full and then shakes as it moves down, but then it will go back up to full again.
Any clues?
Maybe I am getting 50+ miles to the gallon. Take that hybrids! LOL

That is usually corroded lines on the fuel sending unit located on the fuel pump in the gas tank. Must rep[lace the ssending unit or use the odometer. I used to fill up and could depend on 295 miles before it was empty with my 99 3.1

Turns out the fuel level sending unit shorted out. Dealer fixed it for $496.00 billed to warranty.

this problem also occurred in my 2001 mailbu
is there any other way than the odometer or the replacement of fuel sending unit, can this unit be fixed? because my warranty has expired
if not, if i bring this unit from a junk yard, will it work? or some programming is required?
thanks

No other way by man that Malibu sending unit can be saved - except by grace. Brother, you must repent. Sorry, I am getting carried away. No - you must replace the sending unit to properly repair it. Like I said, I get about 390 per tank. So I used the odometer until I saved up.
