Hi guys!

I have owned my Neon 2000 for two and a half years (was 2 years old when i bought it). I hasn't given me any problems at all. It has always been PERFECT!! :) .

For the last couple of months when i give gas it doesn't go, it kind of hesitates. If i give gas progressively it goes, but take too long. It doesn't matter at what RPM i do it, if i slam my foot on the pedal it doesn't go.

In this two years and a half all i have only done is oil-changes. It has been great!! but no preventive maintenance.

To fix the problem what i tried to do is:
- Added 'dry gas' 4 times.
- Added injector and carburator clog cleaner twice.
- Changed the spark plugs.

In the beginning seemed to be better, but none of these fixed the problem. :sly:
What would be my next cheapest step? change the air filter? change the fuel filter? change the spark plug wires?

If you suggest to change the fuel filter how do i do it? i have looked underneath (fuel tank) and i have seen a circular lid with a bunch of wires pluged in.. it that where it is?

I appreciate your help

Thanks

Is your service engine light on?

Sounds like a complete tune up is instore, new wires, PVC valve and that fuel filter,...I would advise buying a Haynes manual to get started with, a wealt of info if you plan on doing your own work. You will want to check your vacuum lines while you are under the hood too, look for cracks and don't be afraid to move them a little so you see the complete vacuum line not just the easy areas. Good Luck

This may seem odd but look anyway, look at the back of the gas pedal, is the wire loose, or broken, when you push it down it gives tha car gas.

Im thinking it could be a tune-up as somebody has stated before along w/ a gas filter, just a thought

I had the same problem wen I boght my neon... no mechanic coul find the problen. after I found that it was getting water in the gas tank by the cap then when the gas pump sucked water it got screwed....So,

Get your fuel presure taken it should be around 38-45 psi or more anithing less is bad cause you are running lean and you are bound to brake something else.
