I have a 1999 3.8L in excellent condition except this problem of acceleration. You get a slow pick-up during acceleraton.

I did a tune-up replacing spark plugs, wires and transmission service. I read about this oxygen sensor, but no diagnostic warning.

I only have this car 6 months @ 70,000 miles.

Any ideas, please advise.........

Can you elaborate a little more as to what's happening? Sounds, smells, shaking, coughing, sputtering?

At this point we could throw a laundry list of possible scinerios. On your year, if an O2 is bad enough to cause a performance issue, it should throw the MIL light. If nothing else seems out of the ordinary I would first suspect either a fuel pressure issue or clogged exhaust. But, if you could give some more insight, no matter how insugnificant it may seem, it could be a key to diagnosis.

The engine sounds noisy with little vibration on steering, like engine under stress. I did have unusual smell few occasions.

Some more info, I had the fuel filter replaced and fuel injectors cleaned during the service.

Could this help.

Thanks

Eh hah! Smell, and sound. Ratlling cound like a tin coffee can full of marbles and a cookded egg smell?

Catalytic converter plugged.

Similar sound and sweet oder?

water pump failure.

However I would suspect the first case with the cat.
