What conditions or problem would make the fuel cutoff light come on and prevent the car from starting? What things should I check to go about fixing the problem? Thanks

Is there sufficient fuel in the tank?
Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the ignition 'ON'?
What is year and engine size?

The car is a 93 and not sure on engine size.
Yes there is fuel in the tank(atleast my husband says there is plenty). The fuel gage doesn't really work so my husband goes by how many miles since last fill up and he says the car has 200 miles before next fill up.(I had asked him about fuel and I got that "are you stupid" look). Also my hubby just replaced the fuel pump a few weeks ago. The car has been acting up the last week. Everytime I would make a right hand turn it would chug and sputter like it wasn't getting fuel and when i pressed the gas nothing would happen until it would finally kick in and go. However I told my hubby to drive it and he said it never happened to him and it must just be me.....NOT!!!! Well wouldn't ya know the next day I went to start the car and now it doesn't start.

open up the trunk of the car, and look to the right. you will see a little panel (about 3 inches by 1.5 inches)that probably has a tiny hole in it. take that panel off and you will see a red button, make sure that button is pressed down.

Alright, I am having the same problem, except that the switch is depressed, and the "FUEL CUTOFF" light is lit only when I depress the clutch pedal. Any answers?

Fuel cutoff light comes on when the inertia switch is thrown, or theres a short in the system.

The Low Fuel light comes on when you're low on fuel.

Engineer, my ass.

check your inertia switch, aka fuel cutoff switch. If it's good, then follow the wiring to make sure it's not grounding out somewhere. also check your fuel pump fuse.

I have heard (by a ford tech) the inertia switch is known to have a tendancy to cause problems.

I have a '93 1.9L that would not start and had the fuel cutoff light come on and the problem ended up being the timing belt (stripped off teeth wouldn't turn crankshaft sprocket).
