Car tires on a Blazer?

I’m considering buying passenger car tires to put on my 99 4WD Blazer, both to save money and to get more miles for my money. This vehicle never pulls a trailer and is never loaded down with anything other than kids and groceries. Anyone want to provide pros and cons?

Also, does anyone really buy tires off the internet? My impression is that even if ‘you’ could get a decent deal on the tires themselves, the savings would be lost because the local installer would add his markup being that he didn’t provide the tires. Can anyone share real life experiences?

Thanks,
Deadeye

car tires are fine on a blazer if you can find them in the correct size, not many car tires are offered in that kind of size. Usually people only order tires on the internet if its a tire that the shop would have to special order anyway or so hard to find that they don't even carry them.

It's all in the load rating.

Car tires are a good idea if you don't go off-road.

I tried all kinds of tires in 400,000 miles on my '90 Suburban 2wd. Original equipment was 235/75x15. I have settled on BF Goodrich Radial T/A's, 255/70x15, same diameter so speedo remains correct.

Rated capacity is slightly higher than OE truck tires at 2100 lb. Good handling, smooth ride, about 60,000 miles per set for only about $70 per tire.

I have made a few purchases from the Tire Rack. I use a local shop for the install (they install tires for a tire store that doesn't have their own shop for $7.00 per tire) New valve and balance included. Their prices are lower than the local tire stores depending on the brand you buy. I bought Goodyear Eagles for a Altima that were $35.00 less per tire.than a Goodyear store. I just bought 4 Yokohama AVID TRZ for my van, they were $68.00 plus shipping, total $73.00 plus install from the Tire Rack, My local tire only store sold them to me for $80.00 with tax and install. When the price is that close I would rather get them locally. When looking for tires at the Tire rack web site they try to steer you towards certain brands, buy overall their pretty easy to deal with

I know that it's an old thread, but I hope that you didn't buy those car tires yet deadeye.

I tried driving my 85 4x4 S-10 Blazer onto my car dolly, with car tires on... and the dolly tires looked flat.
I took it off, and checked the tire pressure and they were both at 35psi (the top listed presure)

I know that it's not the same as having them on the Blazer, but it tells me that passanger cars tires aren't built fot the weight of the Blazer
