rear wheel noisejeffromax 04-27-2005, 07:04 PM I have a 98 Ranger that I bought in Feb of this year, it had approx. 100k miles at the time. I recently noticed that there is a clicking noise that I only hear when the truck is moving and when I have the drivers window downm, sounds like it's coming from the driver side. I removed the front wheel and inspected the wheel bearing for loosness but found none. After driving the truck again, sounds like it's coming from the rear wheel. I haven't yet removed the rear wheel, I plan to check the rear brakes for excessive wear and thought I'd post the question here to see if anyone has sad similar problems. I know that some cars have indicators that will click when the brake pads are worn to a certain thickness, do the 98 Rangers have this set up? I would appreciate anyone's help on this issue I plan to remove the rear brake drum tomorrow, weather permitting, and checking the rear brake pad wear. Thanks, Jeff highboy73 04-29-2005, 10:24 PM most cars do have the wear indicator but as far as i know they are on disc brakes. i've had springs in the rear brakes break before and you'd hear a clicking sound, usually the drum brakes screech when they are bad. just some tips i learned the hard way.....the drum shoes have a short friction surface and a long one always put the short towards the front, always buy new spring kits for them,if the drum don't come off easy loosen the adjuster thru the access hole in the backing plate or you'll break a drum.get them turned or replaced, clean it all up with some brake cleaner. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
