Getting Static Shocks

I had the muffler replaced on my 98 Intrigue 6 days ago. It has been cooler outside as I live Manitoba. Lately when I get out of the car I get a shock off the door when I go to close it. Is there a grounding problem or is it the dry weather? I've had the car since November 2004 and never got shocks before.

I don't know what the cause could be, just the dry weather maybe. I get them too, and they're kinda on the strong side. '99 3.5L.

Here’s a solution so simple you probably won’t believe it at first:

Take an ordinary piece of paper, such as a printer/copy paper. Cut a small piece and tape the paper to the metal on the side of your door or body door jamb. When you open the door, touch the paper before touching something metal. The paper acts as a resistor and your body’s high static voltage is discharged at a controlled rate such that you won’t feel a shock when you touch the door. Could it be that simple?
