Brake lights that won't go offcatsbeetlebug 04-25-2005, 10:04 PM Just bought a 2000 turbo diesel 5 speed beetle and noticed that the brake lights wouldn't go off even after the car was parked and the engine was off. received a new brake light switch from VWOA and i'm still having the same problem with the brake lights not going off. any suggestions, hints, etc.? i'd like to try to solve this problem without having to drive an hour and a half to the closest dealer. i appreciate any and all help y'all can give me. THANKS!! :-) boschmann 04-26-2005, 12:19 PM It's easy to break the switch if they're not installed properly as they have a self adjusting ratchet mechanism. usulmoadib 06-18-2005, 10:12 PM Please let me know if you managed to have the problem solved and if so, how? The same thing happened to me today. I drive a 2002 Golf TDI. I disconnected the battery only to connect it again. This solved the problem but I am not sure if it'll pop back up in the future. lutsk66 06-28-2005, 09:38 PM I believe that this problem you are speaking of is a recall by VW. Just take it to the dealer and they will fix it for free! duncank 10-15-2005, 07:34 PM Hi!!! I have owned a 2000 5 speed Beetle for about three weeks now and have just got the problem of the brake lights not going off, even after the car has been parked and the engine turned off. Did anyone ever find out what the problem was or how to correct it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. veedubmechanic 10-16-2005, 05:25 PM faulty brake light switch.
