Alright guys, I have been a die hard chevy fan since I can remember(even though I am probably not half the age of some of you "past there prime" guys, lol just kidding). Anyway, so is my dad, and he is looking to get a 2000-2005(hes open for opinions) chevy silverado 1500 crew cab,4x4, Cd player(not a necessity). He found one for remarkably cheap. We test drove it, and that thing sure did have some power. I was impressed. A 2000 silverado, 4x4, no cd player, 4.8 v8, auto. Only downfall, 119,000 miles! Thats a crap load for the year. My dads truck now(1995 s10) has 155,000 miles. My dad is weary(sp) about the truck because the extremly high miles. The engine still thrusts you into the seat when you floor it. Carries speed well from what I could tell. Engine looked very good.

What my question is, should my dad pass this truck up and get a truck with much less options? All he really wants is to..
A. keep the payments under 300 per month..
B. Trade his S10 in to get it registered and all that great stuff.

So, opinions fellow board members?

Oh, and sorry if you wasted your time reading this and were looking to gain something informative out of this thread lol.

Well, if it is remarkably cheap, I would say buy it. If it has been taken care of, fluids changed, tune ups, ect... It should last for another 100,000. However, if what they are asking in price is common for the truck with that many miles, you might want to keep looking. Personally, myself, I like gadgets and gizmos. If it has a light and a button, I'm all for it :dupe:

Yea, my thoughts pretty much also. The KBB on it is something like 12-13k and its for 9500. I don't know, I trust the engine, but people here(in a poll) said the tranny has gone/is going at usually, less then 150,000 miles.

Well, crap, you could have a new tranny put in and still come out below the KBB there.

I have to say I bought my 2000 silverado three years ago for 18k with 22k miles on it....its now worth 15k and I just hit 66k.....I love my truck, couldn't be more happy with it.....but for a 2k at 9500 and needs a new tranny with that kind of mileage I would keep looking....the high miles are most likely highway which is to be less wear and tear....to me a truck that needs a new tranny is a red flag to me.....its not worth buying to just have to but money into from the get go....My opinion is keep looking.....

Ill let you guys know what my dad decides.

Personally, I think all GM trannys in all GM cars die a little after 100K miles, automatic or shift

Honestly, if he's that interested in the truck have him take it to a tranny shop he trusts (or any disinterested 3rd party that specializes in trannys) for a 2nd opinion on the tranny if that's the only thing that's keeping him from buying it.

Probably a good idea for him to take it to a disinterested 3rd party for a 2nd opinion and overall check anyway to see if its mechanically sound prior to purchase. Invest a little up-front to save a lot in the long-run.

Unless he bleeds money. In that case, can I call him dad too? :D
