While I was under the hood looking for trouble tonight, I find this connector coming out of a wiring trunk on the drivers side engine area.
I have no idea what it is or what it's suppposed to connect to-there's nothing in the area that I can find that's missing a wire.
Any idea?
It's a '97 Blazer LS, 4.3 2wd.

Yea, I have a connector loose like that on my 1995 too.

I honestly don't know what it is for though. I think it is meant to be unattached.

That's a test connector for certain testing modules. Basically it's 12 volt constant power.

It looks like the fuel pump test wire.
Connect to 12 volts to test fuel pump so you don't have to go turn the Key when checking fuel pressure.

No, that is a 12v constant wire, the fuel pump test wire is on the passenger side. If you follow the wire in the above picture it will terminate at the block connector on the fender (see that little black box there, everything on that is hot). You try to back feed 12v into that wire you're liable to burn something up.

Mine's a 1995. It must have been moved it for 1996 & up.
Can you put a Voltmeter on it to see if it's 12 ?
The fuel pump wire is on driver side on 1995. I jumper it to 12V and the fuel pump runs.

You can put 12 volts on fuel pump test wire and fuel pump run but that is not it's purpose. The wire is 1-Check to see if power is going to pump, 2- to use low amps probe and scope to check pump. If there is power on wire then pump should have power and work. If power and no fuel bad pump. And yea you will only have power ofr few seconds when key is turn on and only while cranking or the engine running.

Curiousity killed the cat , and does wonders for starting wars on forums . It looks like a power wire for some kind of test probably something a dealer mechanic would connect to it and charge you out the yingyang for with a special connectivity rate by the minute .

OH look , mine has it too , but its on the firewall above the wiper motor . They change it for every year . Just to keep us on our toes. It may be something relating to the antikock brake system since it is near it . OR if you have an airbag , be carefull what you probe.

The fuel pump test wire will be tan or white... Again, that's a power wire for test equipment... A while back I asked the dealer the same question... Since it really never gets used, it now powers my fog light relay..

Maybe that is for your underhood light? It would be a constant 12volt source.

The hood light one is a 2 prong weather pack..

hahaha, I actually was going to ask the same question this weekend. I have the same thing on my 96. There seem to be maybe 5 of these red wires, but this one is not attached to anything! What kind of amp load do you think it could handle?

My post was in regard to Rmbodie, who shows to have an '89. It would seem that if it is up top of the wiper motor, that it could be the underhood light.

And on my '98, it is not a two 2 prong. Mine is a single prong, and it grounds through the body of the hood. In fact, all cars I've ever seen with underhood lights ground through the hood, making it a single prong connector.

I was wondering if it is a 12v constant then can someone hook up a light source to it.. like the Chevy Silverado's under the hood.. the retractable flash light type deal. I had one on my old silverado and wouldn't mind one on my blazer.. If it is the same for a 4X4 1999 Blazer

Okay Class, open your Haynes Repair Manual (S-10,1995-2001) to page 4-3.
See figure 3.3, and I quote " The fuel pump can be activated by attaching a jumper wire to battery positive(+12) and touching the jumper to the fuel pump test terminal (red wire) in the drivers side corner of the engine compartment" end quote.
Class dismissed.

So many variations under these hoods. kinda like women you never know whats under the hood until you lift it up . I have the under hood light connected to its proper wire but lots of things are different due to previous and present owner tinkering. The hood light is a single weather connector on this 89er . and it works

Well I am afraid I miss the Haynes Repir Manual Class. But I will continue to use my Mitchell On-Demand 4. Sorry Teacher.
