Grinding of the gearscherryZ 04-21-2005, 08:59 PM Ello Ello, hey can anyone help me with a part number or something for my Z32, the gears make a horrible grinding noise. It most audible during acceleration but its present all the time. You can hear it in nuetral and in the bottom gate gears i.e. 2nd and 4th. There seems to be a few different ideas floating around. Some people say its the clutch throwout bearings which when worn make the noise, another theory is "Cracked boot that seals the shift lever to the floorboard, very comon problem." Someone even said Synchro's. So if anyone can help me diagnose and fix this problem once and for all I would be a very happy boy. Oh yeah don't flame the aussie if this is a commonly asked question i did go through the search and there was nothing relevant. DeleriousZ 04-21-2005, 09:34 PM would most likely be the syncro's if it was grinding going into gear... after it's in gear the syncro's don't have much to do with it.... throwout bearing is a possibility, but it'd be doing it all the time, not specific gears... sounds like you've got a case of wrx tranny:p cherryZ 04-21-2005, 09:36 PM Perhaps, cept it is supposed to be a cheap fix so i wouldnt expect it to be the synchros ExTrEmEDrIfT 04-21-2005, 10:10 PM i would first be looking at the throwout bearing because you did state you can hear it at all times but mostly in 2nd and 4th gear .. if it isnt that then i would look at synchros hell you might have something that broke off and is floating around in teh tranny lol hope ya fix it but go with that .. probehtr300 04-21-2005, 11:19 PM yeah dude theres more of a chance something broke off in the tranny and is flyin around in there. not too long ago i did a tranny fluid change on my friends neon that was sipping really bad (AT) and when i dropped the pan there were 2 bolts sitting in the pan and the head off another bolt that got sheered off LOL lets hope its nothing like that cherryZ 04-22-2005, 08:38 AM Yeah that would not be cool, gonna take it to a Z specialist since i was going to have the gearshift bearings replaced to prevent the wobbly stick anyway (yeah I could probably do it myself but im lazy) so I'll fix it then hopefully stephenp 04-22-2005, 11:27 AM probably throwout from the sounds of it and the reason being it louder in lower gears it would probably be due to less wind noise interfering with the transfer of the noise to the cock pit but at any rate good luck Hodo 04-22-2005, 01:06 PM It sounds more like the throw out bearing, or the boot seal like someone else said. Its most likely NOT the Synchros, they would grind going into gear not after in gear. DeleriousZ 04-22-2005, 08:17 PM would most likely be the syncro's if it was grinding going into gear... after it's in gear the syncro's don't have much to do with it.... !!! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
