According to some, if you simply disconnect the battery that should resent the Check engine light. Others believe there is more involved & suggest going to Autozone & they will reset it for free.

I'm asking if anyone has reset their check engine light themselves, and if so, how? My father has a '99 3.0L Ford Ranger & he's put a few different O2 sensors, EGR, & others & his check engine light keeps coming on. He's unhooked his battery but the light keeps coming back on. Every time he takes it to another garage, he gets a different sensor solution :banghead:

Any advise would be appreciated.

Post the trouble codes for us. If there is a problem, the light will keep coming on no matter how many times you reset it. The proper way is to do it with a scan tool. However, if the PCM sees no fault during a few drive cycles, it will turn off the light on its own. It will store the code for a pre determined amount of key cycles before it erases it.
