auto v.s. manualblakscorpion21 04-20-2005, 11:00 PM what would you say is the diff. in like 0-60 or the 1/4mile between an auto and a 5 speed in a 5th gen. celica. i have an auto and i was thinking about swapping it for a 5 speed some day. 5speeds are so much more fun, i am getting bored with the automatic. what do you guys think? 91 Celica St 04-21-2005, 01:27 AM hmmm depends on what u mean by "auto vs manual" on the 1/4, sorry to say but auto is better, as long as its the same speeds as teh manual (5 speed auto 5 speed nmanual) and you can get some sort of stall on it it will be quicker as well as shift kit as for drifting and everything else, manual for sure blakscorpion21 04-25-2005, 08:00 PM so an auto is just as fast cause all my friends say theyll smoke cause i got an auto and they got manuals. arent autos mostly 4 sppeed anyways? i didnt know they made shift kits 4 autos. SigmaProjects 04-25-2005, 10:35 PM Just stay with the auto. It's better to just wait when the auto bites the dust. That's if you still have the car. 91 Celica St 04-26-2005, 01:49 PM autos technically are faster, in the quarter yes if you have a shift kit, stall etc but most poeple dont have any of that on their celicas anyway so a manual would be faster SigmaProjects 04-26-2005, 06:40 PM but autos feel like you're cheating. I know autos are better on the stip, but then it's just like ok, press gas or do a luanch, and steer. Makes the term "drag racing is about fast cars, not fast drivers" more true. LaYzIeNoY 04-27-2005, 08:44 PM generally speaking i think that stock vs stock, the manual would get the win simpl because it would luanch faster and then both cars would be accelerating the same, but the manual is in front now using a shift kit etc etc the auto will win because the car takes out human error alot and before it comes up, the reasoning they use autos in the fastest drag cars is becuase those beefed up autos, shift much faster than a person could 91 Celica St 04-28-2005, 01:52 PM meh ur right and wrong, actually a auto can get a better launch if it has a stall and a shift kit, thats simplybecause with the stall the tourqe converter actually spins and Immedatly grabbs when you launch, in a manual your clutch is spinning too but its not grabbing anything while its spinning, therefore it must grab then transferr the power instead of just transferring like an auto not to mentin theres ALWAYS gunna be a little clutch slippage no matter how good of a clutch you buy and yes about the shifting thing vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
