Car smells like gas...GSR2NR94 04-20-2005, 08:02 PM My car reeks like gas for some reason and I do not know why. I have looked under it for a moment, and I cannot see anything dripping from the tank or anything. Could I just be running really rich or something. I also have Sportline's and GR2's for suspension, and the other day I went over some really bad train tracks because I could not slow down in time. It didn't seem like I slammed that hard though. Could I have damaged the tank? What is my problem? Thanks guys. Chuki_breath 04-20-2005, 08:06 PM hmm dunno thats weird. I remember one time i put my gas cap on crooked. So it wasnt sealed good and i took a turn hardcore and i smelled hella gas. Got out and their was a tsunami splash of gas running down my ride lol. So i was like wtf did i forget my cap at the gas station. Nope im just a dumb ass and put it on in a kink. I would say just trace everything that has to do with fuel. Check fuel lines and what not, maybe you sprung a small leak. D-Bo 04-20-2005, 08:57 PM smell your trunk first. you might have disloged the pump (its an in-tank pump with a puny rubber seal).. if that smells bad then take it apart and check the hose connections. they're not very solid to start with. after that do what chuki said. and see if you're losing gas at a significant rate. you should be getting about 260 miles/tank so you can break that down to about 65miles/quarter tank.. see if you're losing anything. or even check under your car after its been sitting somewhere for a while.. it might not be coming from the tank. damaged lines are a possibility GSR2NR94 04-20-2005, 09:02 PM Will do guys. I appreciate it. Pavlo 04-20-2005, 10:40 PM I love the smell of gas! And the oil, I am a true car person lol. Does it happen when the car is cold, warm or always? In several cars I've driven (civic, jetta, Integra...) I could smell the gasoline very well when the car was cold, I have no idead why it was like that though. orestes 04-21-2005, 05:22 AM that happened to me the night i bought my car and filled it up with gas... and i have never again filled up the tank.... and it has never happened again.... so who knows... im just pretending it never happened. 240SXSlideStar 04-21-2005, 10:57 AM I love the smell of gas! If it's cold and you have to crank the engine for a few seconds before it'll go, it'll smell like gas because there's gas being sent, but no spark, so for the first 2 seconds after it fires, you are running ultra rich. That's also why some times if you crank for like 30 seconds before it fires there will be alot of smoke coming out of the exhaust for like 5 seconds, it's all the extra gas going out, or the car just won't start because the plugs will get to wet.
