[b]My engine ticks when i start up the car. Someone told me that engines will tick when the engine is low on oil. Now I just did a oil change the other day.. so i'm throwing that cause out the window (although i do believe I have an oil leak).. any other reasons why my engine might be ticking? By the way, The engine is almost at the 170,000 mile mark :)

Most, maybe all stock mitsubishi eclipse (turbo models) have that ticking sound. I talked to a local dsm'er and asked what it was, he said that it was something related to a starter or some sh!t. he said it cant be the timeing belt cause those squeel, etc.

The ticking sound you hear is most lickly your valve lifters. When you first start your car, there is minimul to no oil in you head causing the lifters to tick. Once the head gets oil fed to it the ticking goes away. This is very common on the 4g63 (Turbo and non turbo). It's also common to have faulty lifters that will cause constant ticking. Anyways I can go on forever on this topic but im lazy today, search vfaq, there is lots of information on 4g63 valve lifters and why they tick. You can also read this http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/Frameless/answers-problems.htm#myengineticks

You could always try to put higher octane gas in your car and see if that helps. I noticed mine runs a littler smoother on 93 octane over 87. Might help.

it sounds like lifter tick which is "normal" for 4g63 engines. if you're worried about it you can buy a set of the redesgned lifters from machv which should quiet it down
