transfercase swapteemsta 04-19-2005, 03:37 PM i have a 94 jgcl 5.2 all wheel drive. is that a qaudro or select trac transfer case? also what transfer case can i put in with a part time 4 wheel drive WITHOUT any internal mechanism mods? any help would be great, thanx jeeperphil 04-19-2005, 06:51 PM my understanding is that as long as it comes out of a 93 - 96 grand with same trannie it will go right in. am presently swapping quadra for a cammand trak. Mine is 95. the 231 came from a 94. It fits right in. The full time is quadra-trak, 4drive, neutral, 4low. select trak is 2 high, 4 part time, 4full time, neut, 4low. command trak is 2high, 4high, neut, and 4low. teemsta 04-19-2005, 10:16 PM ive been told it has to be from a v8 if it goes in a v8? so my best bet is to find a command/selct trac t.c. from a v8 93-96? mx52nv 04-20-2005, 01:27 AM ive been told it has to be from a v8 if it goes in a v8? so my best bet is to find a command/selct trac t.c. from a v8 93-96? the V8's never came with a command/selec trac t.c. And to swap in the 231, all you need to do is modify the front output shaft. good luck. teemsta 04-20-2005, 01:08 PM so if i was to go to a junkyard would i find a 5.2 tc that is part time (2/4H/n/4L)? mx52nv 04-20-2005, 03:02 PM so if i was to go to a junkyard would i find a 5.2 tc that is part time (2/4H/n/4L)? Did you even read or understand my last reply?? The answer is NO. What is your objective in doing this? jeeperphil 04-20-2005, 05:15 PM v8 did com with select traks because ive sold several of them. as for the command, My command I just bought needs nothing. It will go right in my 5.2. Ive been told the 5sp or auto is what matters not v8 or six. jeeperphil 04-20-2005, 05:19 PM Hey mx, did you mean the front output or input. This is the first ive heard about the output. MOst of the concerns seem to center around the input. dksob81 04-20-2005, 05:54 PM you need to swap input shafts from the 249 (quadra) to the Command or selec (231 pr 242). Jeeperhill - have you put the Command trac in yet? jeeperphil 04-20-2005, 09:05 PM No but all measurments Ive done so far say it should fit. 23 tooth gear and medium length shaft on the input. The 231 came from a gc with auto and six cyl. Is there still a problem I havent discovered or heard of yet. teemsta 04-20-2005, 10:26 PM jeeperphil, can you let me know how you made out on swapping t.c.'s i'm trying to find out what i can use for a part time 4wd when i swap because i have the full time 4h/n/4L in now and the truck is binding on turns and shaking on hwy. damn vc is gone i've been told thanx dksob81 04-21-2005, 05:08 AM Jeeperhill, from what I have been told you will need to swap the input shaft from the 249 to the 231, b/c the 231 is too long/short for the tranny. Let me know how it goes. jeeperphil 04-21-2005, 05:02 PM Will do. I have a chart that tells what length and spline count is availble. Mine measures right for the swap. But then it would'nt be the first time something was misprinted. I got my 231 from salvage yard. Possible it was already modified. It came from a 94 grand. I don't know how it was equiped engine and trans. dksob81 04-21-2005, 09:11 PM yea tru.... If you go ahead and try to swap TC's without the Input shaft swap let me know if it fits or not. No sense of doing all that crap if there is a way it could fit.. teemsta 04-22-2005, 08:55 PM i seen the illustraded forum for swapping the shafts and it says its pretty easy but all those parts exposed would probably fall out of tc with my luck and i do know alittle about mechanics. so if you do swap tc's without changing shafts can you let me know it is possible? thanks jeeperphil 04-23-2005, 08:24 PM Found out today that the 231 I bought has already had the input shaft replaced. Thats why it fits and is confusing me for it. The 231 does come with a 23 tooth gear but is wrong length. This will apear to fit and will run...... for awhile. the shaft length will cause prmature wear if not a perfect fit. This comes from a Chrysler jeep tech rep. I'm now going ahead with the true neutral mod and rear output mod. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
