To All Camaro Owners91hbcivicdx 04-19-2005, 12:23 PM hey guys, im finally switching over to my all-time favorite car, camaro. just wanted to know a few things before i go out and buy my first. do the v-6 5-speed camaros have power under the hood or are they the economy camaro from the bunch? Link85x 04-19-2005, 12:46 PM I wouldn't consider them to be econ cars, there are a couple of dudes on here who are working with sixers themselves. You can definitely get power under they're hoods, it's just cost money. Philly, 97, Xeno, Kaoitc these guys should be able to help you out. 91hbcivicdx 04-19-2005, 01:12 PM thanks a lot korndogg 04-19-2005, 01:13 PM welcome to the best forum on the board ;) Savage Messiah 04-19-2005, 01:38 PM Welcome man. What years are you talking? If you want a v6 thats got some power your best bet is a 96-02, they come with the 3.8 liter rated at 200 HP/ 225 TQ, and (despite what some people on here say) there's a bit of a market for them in terms of aftermarket. 93-95 3.4 liter engines are ok, with about 160 hp/200 (?) tq. Earlier than 93 and youre lookin at basically no power under the hood. Any questions, just ask us and good luck with your search Xenostalgia 04-19-2005, 02:00 PM Sixers pwn. the extra 2 cylinders are just dead weight on the LT1/LS1's no matter how much everyone else says otherwise. ;) cuda_dude 04-19-2005, 02:14 PM Sixers pwn. the extra 2 cylinders are just dead weight on the LT1/LS1's no matter how much everyone else says otherwise. ;) *holding myself back from the dead weight joke* ViperJ 04-19-2005, 02:32 PM What kind of power are you looking for? I will agree with 97CamaroRS on getting a 96+ (although I have a 94 with the 3.4L). The 3.8L (200 HP/ 225 TQ) runs high 15 sec. quatermiles while the 3.4L (160 HP/200 TQ) run low-mid 16's. There is an aftermarket for both engines although it is easier to get stuff for the 3.8's. Savage Messiah 04-19-2005, 02:36 PM Sixers pwn. the extra 2 cylinders are just dead weight on the LT1/LS1's no matter how much everyone else says otherwise. ;) This coming from Xeno who is dead weight on this planet :evillol: Stop stealing my jokes... :loser: Link85x 04-19-2005, 02:41 PM This coming from Xeno who is dead weight on this planet :evillol: Stop stealing my jokes... :loser: Oh sh**!! Savage Messiah 04-19-2005, 02:42 PM Also in reply to the first post an economy camaro would be one of the 4 cyls that I was told they made for a year or two :( Link85x 04-19-2005, 02:48 PM Also in reply to the first post an economy camaro would be one of the 4 cyls that I was told they made for a year or two :( I read about that and that really broke my heart. I beleive they were in the beginning 3rd gens, so glad the junk those. Very depressing. will69camaro 04-19-2005, 05:04 PM Sixers pwn. the extra 2 cylinders are just dead weight on the LT1/LS1's no matter how much everyone else says otherwise. ;) Last time i checked my "dead weight carrying" LT1 didn't get owned by a Ranger... Get a LT1 M6 car, get good mileage and they're cheap. William Savage Messiah 04-19-2005, 05:19 PM and insurance is a lot more ;) Xenostalgia 04-19-2005, 05:47 PM Last time i checked my "dead weight carrying" LT1 didn't get owned by a Ranger... Get a LT1 M6 car, get good mileage and they're cheap. William oh you suck =P LT1MAN 04-19-2005, 06:36 PM and insurance is a lot more ;) my insurance is $36 per month and i have 4 points on my lisence Savage Messiah 04-19-2005, 06:38 PM my insurance is $36 per month and i have 4 points on my lisence how the fuck?!?!?! 91hbcivicdx 04-19-2005, 07:03 PM well i really love the 3rd gen body style and evrything about it. but since they told me that 3rd gen v-6 weren't as powerful as 93+ v-6 camaros, not quite sure the difference but there was a big difference between them) it was kinda of' a downner. i really dont want a v-8 kuz of gas prices right now, i live in cali. 2.55 for '87, a lil pricey for me. was lookin for a v-6 camaro( 85' through 92') will69camaro 04-19-2005, 07:15 PM lt1 M6 can get 20/30mpg town/highway. Might be able to run midgrade and it'd be worth the upgrade in performance. William Xenostalgia 04-19-2005, 07:25 PM I hope everyone knowsi 'm just teasing and using 97's joke. :P z28 boy 04-19-2005, 07:46 PM Best 3800 is the 96-97 M5 they are quik and for some reason the 98+ are weak in my opinion. Ive driven both and the 98+ just feel cheap and gut less. R.OConnor 04-19-2005, 08:30 PM Hhhmmm, well I wouldnt know about that... the 98+ being gutless, possibly just the one you drove. I drove a 96 3.8 and it was gutless... due to mechenical wear. I have a 2001 V6. Its not real fast but its got some get up and go. They are definately fun cars though and I am very happy with my purchase. Im not even sure if there is a big market for 3rd Gen V6's, they just dont last nearly as long. Odds are you will probably be buying one that will be on it's death bed. Infact, I have heard (so im not certain on this) that the newer V6's have more power than a lot of the 3rd gen V8's. Also take into consideration how old you are (because I dont know how old you are). I am 18 and my camaro is $280 a month to insure (I got comp and collision) just because of my age, where I live, and that fact that it is classified as a 2 door sports car. But I love my car. Savage Messiah 04-19-2005, 09:48 PM well i really love the 3rd gen body style and evrything about it. but since they told me that 3rd gen v-6 weren't as powerful as 93+ v-6 camaros, not quite sure the difference but there was a big difference between them) it was kinda of' a downner. i really dont want a v-8 kuz of gas prices right now, i live in cali. 2.55 for '87, a lil pricey for me. was lookin for a v-6 camaro( 85' through 92') 3rd gen v6's = 2.8, 3.1. Both weeeak and balless. and the 3.8's with a few mods (actualyl stock for stock depending on teh driver) can take out 3rd gen 305's. Also I havent been able to... test it myself but I have seen many many many times that 3.8's beat pre-98 mustang GTs. miecow 04-19-2005, 09:59 PM i own a 90 3.1 (sob) and would love to drop a lt1-2-3-6 in it.. as far as i know 82 and maybe sone 83's came with 4 bangers but they figured out the suck so they shit canned the motor.. i would love to find one though..they dont need emissions tests in mass. you can do whatever you want with em miecow 04-19-2005, 10:05 PM p.s. the 3.1 ltr v-6 is 140 hp.. i sadly own one cuda_dude 04-19-2005, 10:24 PM my insurance is $36 per month and i have 4 points on my lisence is that just plpd? because full coverage on mine is 100 a month R.OConnor 04-19-2005, 10:39 PM JEez, sorry for saying those thing about the 3rd gen V6's... didnt know you guys were gonna cry lol jk and goddammit, quit talking about all your insurance prices... I get my insurance bill and its just a blank peice of paper that says "Thank you for letting us rape you".... man, I cant wait till im 25 philly rs 04-19-2005, 10:54 PM well i wont knock the older 6 but i will say the 3800 has a good base to work with. im re building mines next month, new cam, headers, exaust, pistons, springs the entire ball of wax. we also got new pc's and a tuner so we are shooting for 300 on engine followed by a 200shot and then a second stage 100. its not a v8 but u can get some power in her if u have any questions just post em and we will help all we can....oh and welcome to our humble home 88camaroproject 04-19-2005, 11:08 PM dont get a 2.8, that s what i have, dissapoited, gives camaros a bad name. but i try to make it better.....like others said, they have no balls. now im looking for a 3.8 too for 3500 or less out da door. so far not to much luck. im in florida by the way. cocoa beach if you care korndogg 04-19-2005, 11:32 PM and goddammit, quit talking about all your insurance prices... I get my insurance bill and its just a blank peice of paper that says "Thank you for letting us rape you".... man, I cant wait till im 25 i pay $350 a year for my maro :lol2: KaotiKCamaro5 04-20-2005, 01:45 AM i pay 70 bucks a month... for just PLPD.. but thats on my name.. and i have a spotless driving record. * the 3.8 is a little better on performance, but the 3.4's are gonna be cheaper to buy and not too far behind them.. the 3.4 also came with better gearing.. IMO. But this is coming from someone who's had a 3.4 for years, dumped a shit load of money into it and still isnt happy... you be the judge... z28 boy 04-20-2005, 02:02 AM Also I havent been able to... test it myself but I have seen many many many times that 3.8's beat pre-98 mustang GTs. I agree with u totaly ive seen it and ive done it in my friends 96 M5 3.8 Camaro with 130,000 miles. Those littel 3.8's are crazy strong. Ive test driven a few of the newer ones even have a friend with a 99 3.8 but its no match for the 96 my friend has. Im not trying to put down ur car R.Oconnor but ive just never driven a 98+ 3.8 that has the same balls as the 96-97 3.8s drvngstorm05 04-20-2005, 02:10 AM if u really want a third gen, i strongly suggest getting a v8, the v6 third gens had absolutely no balls. but 4th gen sixers have some balls, especially the first two years of the 3.8... R.OConnor 04-20-2005, 02:10 AM Did they make any changes, such as the traction control, I know that has an effect or so I hear drvngstorm05 04-20-2005, 02:14 AM Did they make any changes, such as the traction control, I know that has an effect or so I hear don't quote me on this, but i think the '98 and up are heavier cars, at least i think i remember hearing that somewhere... i'm not sure where the extra wieght would come from but i swear i heard that somewhere... R.OConnor 04-20-2005, 02:16 AM hhmmmm, Well we need to find out where that extra weight is so I can start unbolting shit lol. Actually if I wanted to reduce weight the first thing to go: every electric option (power locks and windows) drvngstorm05 04-20-2005, 02:22 AM hhmmmm, Well we need to find out where that extra weight is so I can start unbolting shit lol. Actually if I wanted to reduce weight the first thing to go: every electric option (power locks and windows) personally i'd ditch rear seats and spare tire b4 the power options... converting ur windows to manual would require getting a new door cover... so u can have a whole for the handle besides only midgets can fit in our backseats anyway so they are worthless lol drvngstorm05 04-20-2005, 02:24 AM wait a minute i just thought of something... did they change the rear axle gearing in '98? cuz that would make a big difference. honestly i can see GM doing that in order to get better gas mileage in 5th gear... R.OConnor 04-20-2005, 02:25 AM Ah, I can fit them back there, just the only response to complaining is "Shut up bitch and fork up the gas money or im not letting you out" lol. But you do have a point... I would like to keep my back seats but I can loos the tire and jack Pewter'01SS 04-20-2005, 08:42 AM besides only midgets can fit in our backseats anyway so they are worthless lol ""backseats" So thats what they are called, I always refer to them as the big upholstered glove box. Savage Messiah 04-20-2005, 09:34 AM Power (windows at least) are lighter than manual LT1MAN 04-20-2005, 10:40 AM i know someone who took their spare and jack out and got a flat that week, had no cell phone either. not good carma Link85x 04-20-2005, 10:53 AM i know someone who took their spare and jack out and got a flat that week, had no cell phone either. not good carma I won't be doing that (puts tire and jack back into car). Xenostalgia 04-20-2005, 11:02 AM 1: Take your tire and jack out is just fucking stupid. I don't care what you are running. 2: I had a 5'9" friend of mine sit in the back seat without his legs being put over on the other seat. Not to mention a 350lb friend of mine in the front seat. And I was still peeling out ^_^. 3: Backseats are worthless depending how many friends you got. R.OConnor 04-20-2005, 12:17 PM 1. you have a point, especially in the cnditions my tires are in lol 2. Put the big boys in the back, then peeling out is real easy 3. I have more than 3 friends... do you? lol KaotiKCamaro5 04-20-2005, 12:32 PM Not to mention a 350lb friend of mine in the front seat. she'd be pissed if she found out you just put "friend" .. either way im glad you admitted it.. :lol2: Xenostalgia 04-20-2005, 01:06 PM Dude what the fuck is your problem needle dick? virus-script 04-20-2005, 01:12 PM hay can any one help me Link85x 04-20-2005, 01:21 PM hay can any one help me what do you need help with? Welcome to the forums, i always wanted to say that. Hypsi87 04-20-2005, 01:38 PM she'd be pissed if she found out you just put "friend" .. either way im glad you admitted it.. :lol2: EZ you two.... I said reduced presence... not totally gone. Back on topic korndogg 04-20-2005, 01:43 PM she'd be pissed if she found out you just put "friend" .. either way im glad you admitted it.. :lol2: bwwwwwwwahahahahahahaha. holy hell , havent laughed that hard in a while. ok now back to hypsi's orders.....back on topic.. Xenostalgia 04-20-2005, 02:06 PM Ya'll suck. She's 160lbs. Not sure where you get that 350 from... And atleast I have friends. And also I have a gf... Unlike some blowup-doll-humping-queers around here... Korn & Kao =) Edit: I'm done with that now Hypsi. korndogg 04-20-2005, 05:20 PM for your information...I have a girl and she owns a 70 chevelle.... Earlsfat 04-20-2005, 05:29 PM Re the Insurance deal.... $450 / Year - FULL COVERAGE.... and get this.... Got a 13 point ticket 3 years ago, insurance NEVER went up. Earlsfat 04-20-2005, 05:31 PM Oh and the topic... but what you like. You can always tweak it. If you're looking for something with balls, buy it, don't build it... cheaper to buy it done than to screw with it forever. KaotiKCamaro5 04-20-2005, 05:49 PM wtf is the topic again? *i just love to make Xeno mad.. cuz he can never come up with a good comeback.. philly rs 04-20-2005, 06:15 PM man look, a 3800 is a good ride but if u wanna get a fun ride i would look for a 3rd gen z, hell a iroc if u could find one, i always wanted one that would be a sweet ride to have. but for what u want to spend u should be able to find a nice 3800 laying around. i noticed u said u were in fl, im in tampa but im not sure how far u are from me(im not from here). if u need help finding one hit me up, guys in my club are always selling them. i may be able to help u get one for a good price, hell if u had 10 g's i could get u a 99ss with 40,000 miles on it right now. but i know thats more than u said u wanted to spend, anyways camaros are all over tampa im sure i could point u in the right direction cooltc2004 04-20-2005, 07:14 PM Well the V6 automatic Camaro is a dog, or so I've heard. I own a 1992 Firebird 3.1LV6 5-Speed, 3.42 gears, etc, and I can hold my own with a 305 of the same year. 3.1L = 140 hp / 180 Ft. Lbs. Torque 3.4L = 160 hp 3.8L = 200 hp Now these aren't precise, but are ball park (withing 5 hp). I dont know the torque for the other V6 except for the one I own. If your going to get a V6, get it in 5-Speed, trust me. philly rs 04-20-2005, 11:10 PM hmm mines when stock dyno'd at 168hp and 202 trq. drvngstorm05 04-21-2005, 09:14 PM about the spare tire thing... i haven't had a spare tire in my car since i owned it, don't think i ever will. but i do plan on filling that space w/ a nitrous bottle one day lol. i don't believe in luck or carma (i thought it was spelled karma, but u spelled it that way so ok) Rally Sport 04-21-2005, 09:44 PM Well the V6 automatic Camaro is a dog, or so I've heard. I own a 1992 Firebird 3.1LV6 5-Speed, 3.42 gears, etc, and I can hold my own with a 305 of the same year. Same with me actually, lol. I dont know but it seems that the v6 3rdgen is under rated, I dont know, but oh well as long as I can hold my own against the newer stangs. :) miecow 04-21-2005, 10:07 PM i'm at around 700 a year for a ninty. step11 in massachusetts..everythings more expensive here...anyone from virginia?? thinking of moving 94GPSHAKER 04-22-2005, 12:35 AM ok i live in MI and inurance is 600 for 6 months plpd only. i have a 94 z LT1 (exhaust, gears,CAI,LT4 sensors, etc many new parts also ive probly spent around 5000 so far but the hood is starting to bubble from small rust spots and unserneath hood also, front bumper is spiderwebb cracked and peeling on the front tip tomarrow after i help paint my freindS 84 z i am doing mine Glazzaritt primer, RM DIAMONT black paint and Clear and we are spending about 250 a piece on all that material so i will have about $5390 into it (not sure if i want to hook uyp the system 4000watt MA 2 12 inch ultra volvenhag custom2 18inch audiobahn ultra high excursion). i would expect my time to drop a second with all the equip, but right now im rollered at rwhp354hp 376ft lb tq and i hit a 12.43 at midland drag w/blue rhino fuel.
