Hey, i got a guy selling his GSR head with good internals, just wondering how the setup woudl work with my B16 motor, If you guys think its a good idea to get it, and what would be a fair price to pay. The details of the head are below

97 gsr head that has about 75xx miles on it after the machine work. The port job has been taken care of by Portflow Design in So Cal. The internals are Crower ti-retainers and dual valvesprings, new OEM valve seals, ITR valves, and CTR cams which have only about 2000 miles on them. Also the vtec solenoid is included on the head. The valve cover, distributor, and intake mani are not included.

Let me know what you guys think, be easy i am a newb

i don't see why you don't just upgrade your b16 head. if you purchase the ITR head are you gonna be satisfied with with the stock head? or are you gonna change out the cams/valves/springs/p&p in the future? if so just stick with the b16 and work on that.

ok good question, what would be the HP difference between all those upgrades on a b16 head compared to a b18c5 head? I can get a type R head for 850 shipped, without cams

You're going to pay 850 shipped for a stock ITR head without cams, but thought 1000 dollars was too much for a B16 head with 900 dollars of portwork, and probably 400 dollars worth of extras? Holy shit.

well it was a GSR head on the b16 block, but the reason i was thinking of going with the type R head instead is because i already have all the other bolt ons, and from what i know those bolt ons will fit the type-r head better then the GSR head,

like they dont' take the same skunk 2 intake maninfold, the cold air for the b16 and b18c5 is 70 mm, i believe it is different for GSR. And so on, see i dont claim to be an expert about this stuff, thats why i am on here, lookin for an experts advice

Let me say it again.

You passed up a head with 900 dollars worth of port work and 400 dollars in extras because you think your CAI and cheap intake manifold won't work with it?

That is, to take that bare ITR head and to get it to the level of the head you passed up on would be 900 dollars from portflow, plus around 400 for the springs/retainers, and several hundred more for the cams.

I had came on the site to check what the head was worth it, because i didn't know what the value was, the only response i got was "put it on"

thanks for the help at least now i know how much it is worth

$900 in port work??? That better be one hell of a port job for that much. I know a guy who will do a port and polish and a multi angle valve job for $350. So I don't think getting the deck cleaned, decked, assembled, new seals, and polished chambers should cost an extra $550. Maybe, realistically, it'd cost $305-400 more; but that's quite a bit less than $550.

Also the B16a head isn't a whole lot different than the ITR head. It just has better cams, valve train, and a mild P&P.

ok, so my question is what value would you put on the gsr head that i described before when i first started the thread?

With just the parts alone (including the port work), if you were to buy them new, it'd cost a little under $2,000.

well how about used, what value would you give it, say used in good condition

go with the gsr head....
built>stock
besides some people would always argue that a stock p72 flows better than a pr3 anyways..

And I can bet you your guy who does 350 dollar port work can't touch what Portflow does. There's more to headwork than just hogging out the runners. Portflow charges 900 for the P&P, worked chambers, 3-angle valve job, and milled however much you want. The difference in low/mid lift flow and swirl from the portflow head over the cheap job will probably be on track for 5-10 ft-lbs in the mid range.
