I have a '96 Bonneville SSE with 177,000 miles on it. I have not had any major work done on it, but all scheduled maintenance has been done. I recently started to get a check eng. light along with a shudder and a flashing traction control light. This only lasts about 15 seconds or so, but occurs ad different times from start up, to freeway acceleration, to highway driving. I took the car in to a trusted mechanic, but was only told that there were misfire codes, and it was probably just loose carbon from when I flushed the fuel injectors. Still, the problem has persisted for almost a month, and seems to be occurring more often. Any Ideas on what might be causing the problem? Thanks.

Have you had any luck finding a solution? My 96 SSEi is doing the same thing, it's in the garage right now with a good mechanic tracing the problem. I'll let you know if I find anything.

No, I have not had any luck yet. The mechanic shop I took my bonni to last time has since changed hands. I'm looking for another one, but I'm driving anther car until I can get the Bonni looked at. Please let me know if you find anything. If I find anything I'll let you know. Thanks

I also have a 96 SSE with similiar activity. I now drive the car in Drive rather than Overdrive after resetting the check engine light. Lost of fuel economy but no longer shuders going down the highway. Still looking for a solution and use car only once or twice a week currently. I would appreciate any followup if someone discovers a solution. Thanks in advance.

I got my car back last night, seems to be fixed, the mechanic said he found a loose wire (he didn't specify which one) on the engine. It must have been on the topside, as they had to take off the plastic cover over the supercharger to get to it. Sorry I don't have more specific info but it seems TOO simple to me. Might be work just checking all the wires to be sure.

I just called my mechanic, he said what he did was to remove the heat shield over the spark plugs, he said some of them were shorting out, even though they were new. He said all it takes is one spark plug wire to be loose and it would do the same thing. He cusses these new wires, cause all it takes is a bend or something to break the carbon core in them.
