cheap for a reason or a good investment?
are electronic boost controllers known for boost spikes or are manual ones, the last thing i want is my engine to get fvcked up.

i dont know if id trust somthing so simple

this is a VERY basic rendition of any aftermarket manual boost controller. the 75$ manual controllers basically are just the same, only most likely higher quality/reliability.
yeah it should work and yeah it should be that cheap
manual boost controllers are prone to spiking and the cheaply made ones may be somewhat more so. its possible to go to home depot and make one yourself so id trust this as far as the 10$ price tag

the boost spiking will only hurt you if you tune your car right to the edge. if you know your car can ONLY handle 18psi for example, dont run 17 psi with a manual boost controller.
if your car can handle 18 psi and you run 14 psi, it might spike to 16 psi or something but it wont hurt your car at all, you will just feel faster sometimes:)

if you want to tune your car high, just bite the bullet and go buy a good electronic controller(i heard the Greddy Profec-B2 was very easy to use and very high quality)

a manuel boost controller is basically a ball and spring or a bleeder valve setup that tricks the wastegate into not thinking its seeing 7psi on the stock SR wastegate. the problem is the boost settings to vary greating depending on change of climate, and altitude.

if you set your boost to 15 psi during a 80 degree day, and then it drops to 55 degrees at night, your goin to get boost creep to around 17 psi or even more. this is because the air is colder and more dense at night which causes the settings to go all out of whack. if you live in a area where temperature varies greatly, don't even bother with a manuel boost controller.

also the benefits of a electronic boost controller is that there is a computer that checks the cycles of either the stepper motor or the solenoid and has a pressure sensor. if it sees more then the set amount of boost, it will back off the duty cycle of the solenoid or the stepper motor to get the same boost level as you see it during a hot day. not to mention you can easily toggle between high and low boost with a press of a button, or on certain boost controllers, you can have a scramble boost mode. a scramble boost mode is when you hold on to the button and lets say your high boost is set to 14 psi, and you set the scramble to run 17 psi. its sort of like a cheater nitrous button but with turbo.

not to mention that you will hit full boost faster becasue the wastegate won't see any boost signal until the computer see the desired boost setting, then lets all the boost goes to the wastegate to open it. howevever a electronic boost controller cannot stop all boost spiking or creeping. if your wastegate port is too small, it will still creep up on you, this is a common problem on STi's so many people are porting out their wastegate ports. and it cannot do a 100% perfect job on keeping hte boost level at exactly the set psi during a really cold night ( like 15 degrees )
