1994 JGC Air Conditioning Doesn't Workcatdrugn 04-17-2005, 08:13 PM 94 JGC with the 4.0 engine. When the air conditioning is switched on the compressor does not come on at all. I've checked the fuse in the fuse box. Also checked the fuse and the relay located under the hood. All are good. Before I assume the compressor is shot, does anyone have any other ideas on what I might check? Thank you! xj31 04-17-2005, 10:22 PM make sure that there is refrigerant in the system teemsta 04-18-2005, 09:46 AM my 94 jgcl air conditioner compressor was not working when i bought the truck. i went to Target and bought the refill canister with the little gauge on the hose and fill to specs. my air condition works fine now. compressor kicks on when i turn it on catdrugn 04-18-2005, 04:44 PM make sure that there is refrigerant in the system I should have mentioned that I did throw a gauge on the system to check the pressure and the gauge indicated that it's in the normal range (about 35 psi). Might it still need freon if the pressure is "normal"? SteveB05 04-19-2005, 07:09 AM static pressure doesn't really tell you charge levels. On the top of the dryer (big canister on the bigger A/C hose) is the low pressure switch. Pull the plug and with a short piece of wire, short the two leads while the engine is running and the A/C on. Your clutch should engage. If so, you have a low charge, or a bad switch. If not, you have other issues...clutch, A/C controller etc. BTW, in any case, don't short the leads long...if it does have a low charge, thats a bad thing. xj31 04-19-2005, 11:47 PM I should have mentioned that I did throw a gauge on the system to check the pressure and the gauge indicated that it's in the normal range (about 35 psi). The tip about using a jumper on the switch worked great. The compressor fired up and I was able to get a true pressure reading and added the R-134 accordingly. Seems to be working fine now.
