View Full Version : 240sx not starting.... 240sx not starting.... grncivicdhr 04-17-2005, 07:11 PM however, today i left work and its up to the same old sh*t again. heres what it does: the car won't start. everything works, windows, radio, lights etc... when you turn the key, theres no sound of the enigne trying to start or the starter motor, nothing. the only thing that does happen is that the side markers start blinking on thier own for about 2-3 minutes and then stop. like i said, last time this happened the car was towed back to my house and then i tryed to start it and it started right up. whats the problem with it? whats the deal with the side markers blinking? grncivicdhr 04-17-2005, 07:58 PM i noticed something else too. the power windows in my car are aftermarket and who ever put them in has the rocker switches on the center console. when i was starting the car i hit it with my elbow and the window went down as i turned the key. thats the point where it wouldn't start. the windows themselves go up and down with no key in the ignition b/c they're "hard wired" to the fuse box below the dash. basically they just ran the wires from the rocker switches and, using crimp tabs on the ends of the wires, plugged them in to two open spots in the fuse box (one for rear wiper and the other for day time running lights). tuesday i'll be going to the local nissan dealer to order in new window crank handles, i'm taking the aftermarket motors out of the doors and removing all the wiring for those rigged up power windows. right now i'm just lettin the car sit with the battery disconnected in hopes that it needs to "reset" itself in some way. seriously, if someone can let me know what the deal is, i need some help. i still wanna know why the side markers start blinking. orestes 04-17-2005, 08:20 PM wow that is majorly fucked up but it could end up being a simple solution. it has to be some sort of wiring/electrical issue especially with the side markers going on and whatnot. i know a mechanic marc who is like 6'5" looks like a caveman bushy ass beard and scraggly hair but dude is the best problem solver i have ever seen he is a genius. if it was my car i would be taking it to him because it sounds so weird. but unless you know someone that smart i dont know what to tell you. 240SXSlideStar 04-17-2005, 08:25 PM If everything works but there's no engine sound, maybe your starter is fucking up, try hitting it while cranking. Get a friend to bang on it with a plastic mallet or a big peice of wood while ur cranking (or vice-versa). grncivicdhr 04-17-2005, 09:08 PM the starter was replaced only about 6 months ago. i'll try givin it a wack anyhow tho. i tryed cleaning off the battery terminals aswell, but notihng happened. then i noticed this "piggyback" lookinh thing on my negative terminal with two snap together electrical hook ups. it runs to the ignition fuse box right next to the battery. What is that? i never noticed that on a car before (atleast none that i've ever owned). i unclipped the connectors and they seem to be filled with some kinda of lubricant. what the heck is that? i'm not sure what the previous owner tryed to do to this car, but i have a feeling it was rigged up for a stereo and then the stock one may have been put back in before it changed hands before it was mine. By the way, in regards to it starting last time after a tow... could that have been because of the jostling the car took on the back of the flat bed? could it have vibrated something back in place? another thing, does rolling the car rotate the starter motor? maybe theres some kind of flat spot on it and it was re-alligned after it was pulled up onto the flat bed. should i try pushing the car a couple feet and see if somethin needs to be rotated or am i desperately making sh*t up right now? Chuki_breath 04-17-2005, 09:40 PM hmmm sounds weird, has to be a short or something somewhere. Maybe a loose ground??? Then the flatbed jumbled it around and got a good connection again??? I dunno that is pretty weird. grncivicdhr 04-18-2005, 10:25 AM ok, this is even stranger. since i've owned the car i noticed this little "kill switch" under the dash near the fuse box as well. i checked to see if it does anything by switching it into its two different positions and then tryed to start the car. it starts up in either position. i went back to my car today and in a last ditch effort figured i'd flip the switch as i turned the key and the POS started right up. Then, i drove it home and shut it down. next i put the switch in both positions and started the car, starts up in either position... what the hell!!! i'm gonna be pulling this shit out (i'll just reconnect the wires that the switch splits) as well as the power windows too. if i ever meet the guy that did this shit to my s13 before i owned it, i'll kick him in the balls.... 240SXSlideStar 04-18-2005, 11:18 AM My friend had one of those on his car, this little red button you'd have to play with to start the car, but of course it was installed by an amateur (previous owner) so after getting stuck in parking lots 2-3 times he just ripped all that shit out. slideways... 04-18-2005, 11:26 AM your starting problem is a short somewhere so the power that is supposed to be going to your starter is instead going to your turn signals. check by your fuse box maybe the ignition fuse and the blinker fuse are next to each other? somehow the current is going to your blinkers instead. check all the wiring and grounds to and from your starter, ignition, ect. for breaks or bad connections too Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
