i saw this in a real old post

"VG30DETT is one of the worst engines ever, no room in the engine bay, very hard to do any upgrades at all and if u havent blown urs up, then u havent driven it very hard then.
I know alot of tuners that refuse to work on them as its a waste of time."

is this true? im looking at a 90 300zx na right now, but that quote really scares me. I can get the car fo 4300, has abt 100k miles, and has had a new timing belt and clutch installed, but that just scared the shit outa me. any explanations?

First off the VG30DE engine is 15 years old and will still hold is own in stock form with the best on the road.
The engine bay is alittle tight but so is the gal I go with, so what? does that make it a bad car?
I don't think many people run there Z any harder than I do and I've never blown one, but then I only run it up to 9,500RPM between shifts and go through the lights at 10,000.
The tuners that refuse to work on them aren't tuners. There wannabe's. There's lots of shops that all they work on is Z's.
The Z32 was voted by 250 Automotive engineer's as one of the best all time Best Engineered car's in the world.
It holds the worlds record for 3L cars at 225MPH.
I've personally been playing with cars for over 50 years and it's the best car I've ever owned.
Would I ever change? You bet, just as soon as someone can come up with a better car. Till then, may Zforce be with you.

Aired live from the beautiful Aladdin Hotel in downtown Las Vegas.

yeah, what gives...blows up??? i havent even talked to anyone that hasnt blown their engine with following guidelines. matter of fact...there is only one person i ahve talked to that has blown their engine and that was broke and the reason was probably over boosting. with any car you have to follow the limits...

has anyone ever had consistent problems with transmissions and transfer cases with their Z32??? not that i know of but i sure has hell of a few in my mind and they are paricularly from one company.

im gonna tell you the truth...i beat the shit out of my N/A engine. never had a single problem different from the day i bought it. i replaced the starter at about 90k and that was it.

and yes the engine bay is tight...but what do you want, a friggin civic motor???

whatever...some people are ignorant but im not gonna get upset.

read the facts:
http://www.cob.montevallo.edu/VascoF/HISTORICALTIMELINE.HTM

If your too lazy to click the link, just read this!!!

The 1990 300ZXTT is named the Motor Trend "Import Car of the Year." Motor Trend also names it, "One of the Top Ten Performance Cars."
Automobile Magazine honors the 300ZX/300ZXTT as its "Design of the Year," and names the 300ZXTT to its "All Stars" list.
Road & Track names the 300ZXTT "One of Ten Best Cars in the World."
Car and Driver names the 300ZXTT "One of the Ten Best Cars."

1995 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Z. It also brings another award fro Car and Driver, as the publication names the 300ZX Twin Turbo to its "Ten Best" list for the sixth straight year.

People should learn to not talk unless they have some reasoning behind it!!! Automobile Magazines do not hand awards back to back years for your average car...

K3, Open this thread and past it in the history of the Z. That's killer. I knew that but never could find it all like that.

oh and on the note of the timeline heres one of my favorite parts

"According to Nissan, in recent years, the 300ZX/300ZXTT has outsold the Mazda RX-7, Toyota Supra, and Acura NSX combined."

has he tried buying a new flywheel or resurfacing the one he has??? the stock clutch will last 60k+ miles and thats impressive for a 300hp car. this is the first time hearing anyone having problems with their clutch giving way frequently on the Z32. which makes me thing something else is wrong rather...

hmm when they said that statement did they mean the Z compared to its peers, the RX-7 and Supra, the Rx-7 motor is known for blowing up every 100k, the supra motor is more expensive than the vg30dett .... so just like the guy that said the quote, i can pull bullshit out of my ass and ppl who don't know better will believe it, but i think you should be on topic about n/a engines since thats what your going to get .... ive got 160k on mine and all that it needs as of right now is a new head gasket but thats a universal problem for all motors... 4300 is a little too much for a 90 i think though, unless it has a couple good mods i paid 3k for mine its also a 90 n/a auto

yah if just the clutch was replaced and the flywheel wasnt touched that would cause it too unless also a warped flex plate could too theres a diff probelm because that many clutches is just outrageous lol ..

oh yah tipito that thread i clikd lol buncha dumbass jackasses that dont know shyt about the 300zxTT saying they have bad reputations for blowing up and crap just shows the stupidity in the world..

i dont know how many times i gotta explain to people the differance between a riced out piece of jap crap and an import alotta pepl think of anything non-domestic as jap crap imports which shows how much they know..

yes... never trust ANYTHING that anyone says in the car comparisons thread when it comes to the 300zx... most people are just too ignorant to do any type of research and just hop on the "blows up and is hard to work on" bandwagon. the bottom line is, if you treat her like you should, she'll baby you just as much as you baby her

well the car im looking at has 100k miles, and has just had a new clutch and timing belt, and he has the reciepts. the onyl problem is that it cant rev over 2000 rpms when wet, but i asked around and peopel said its most likley the AAC valve. he was asking 6400, but i offered 4000 and he said 4300. still this this is a good deal? black on black leather too.

yeah and sounds good...and most people did agree with me, with the AAC valve thing. the reason i say this is because of the whole 2000 RPMs.

i have heard of people running an inline switch to there AAC valve and disarm it when they valet it so if your valet does decide to do some joy riding, he would get more dissappointed than anything. :D

I hear you K3. I just don't loan my cars. Mexicans aren't known to be good drivers, and I'm not sure I'd get it back.

Your no more Mexican than I'm the queen of England. You a pinchi gringo whos ancestors came from Mexico. Like me, I'm a pinchi gringo whos ancestors came from Italy.
The true Mexican drivers are BAD. Real bad. There cars have no brakes. Most lights don't work. They only run on half the cylinders and burn oil. Most of the time only have a coke bottle of gas in the car, thats all they can afford. There tires are rejects from American wrecking yards. They have more stickers on them than paint. And they all think there the best mechanic's in the world cause they can hot wire a car in 3 seconds.
Sorry but I live in Mexico gringo, and I have first hand knowledge.
You know I'm pickin on you Estaban. Hodo was my whippen boy last week. Now it's your turn. Besides us 3 have to stick togather. Were a minority, and have rights.
Anybody fucks with you, fucks with me, and I'll have them for lunch.

i think the vg30dett is one of the best production engines, its totally bullet-proof. my friend has an afinity with a vg30de and it has around 250,000 on it and still runs fine.....
