View Full Version : O2 sensors from $120-$20...i aint paying no $120!! O2 sensors from $120-$20...i aint paying no $120!! GT500916 04-16-2005, 08:50 PM My O2 sensor needs to be replaced, so the ECU tells me... So i went to Kragen (auto store.. maybe some havent heard of it) and they were selling the OEM O2s for $120 there and they have the universal ones for $20. Then i went to Autozone and they had one for $80 OEM and one for $24 universal, and then they had a universal one for $60 I didnt know which one i need because there were 2 ptions for my cars year one was a 02/95 and the other one was 02/95 and on, or something like that. The guy told me i need to know the month of my car and then ill know if ill need the $24 one or the $60... well great. because i looked between my door jam and it said 03/94 so does that mean i need the $24 one? Now, im not going to spend no $120 on a stupid O2 sensor thats for sure, i feel like $20 is still a rip off haha but is there that much difference between the OEM and the universal ones? Yes the wire has to be split, but its definitely not a $100 job to do that. I can do that in 5 seconds!! (napoleon dynamite) How do i make sure if i need th cheap Universal one or the $60 universal one, why is it such a big deal anyways its just a sensor, arent they all pretty much the same and have the same purpose?! advice would be great on this one :) thanks! AWDSR20 04-16-2005, 10:39 PM universal might not fit, you might need to drill a new hole for it. pluse u need to splice it. i think! 240SXSlideStar 04-16-2005, 10:42 PM Yes the wire has to be split Yeah, he knows it. GT500916 04-17-2005, 12:10 AM so pretty much the universal one can be used from almost any car? As far as i know the only thing id have to do do is split the wire, i doubt they will give you one so you have to drill a new hole and then thread the hole or what? thats like a $200 job, not to mention removing the header and all that crap. I was thinking just go to a junk yard and bring mine with me and find one of a crappy car for a few bucks and stick it in and see if that fixes the engine light. AWDSR20 04-17-2005, 12:15 AM sound good... (most ones are bad dough) 240SXSlideStar 04-17-2005, 12:50 AM What you can do is go to the hardware store and find a nut that's a good fit for the sensor and weld it onto the header or wherever you're putting the sensor and ypu'll be good to go, that's not a 200$ job. GT500916 04-17-2005, 03:25 AM unbolt exhaust/take off some crap/take off header (that i just put on a week ago so i can smog) then go to Home Depot, then you say "weld"? so you mean drill a new hole? because isnt it kinda impossible to weld to cast header? maybe im wrong. Also arent they tuff to drill as well? i have a stock header by the way so hmm...!! 240SXSlideStar 04-17-2005, 12:50 PM It was just a suggestion. Hit_N_Run-player 04-17-2005, 01:38 PM id just save all the hassle and buy the one you need, even if it is expensive... SHIFT_KA24DE 04-17-2005, 01:42 PM you'll definitely get what you paid for. most of the time OEM parts are very dependable. The universal sensor will probably work and let you drive your car at the very least. If you're talking about accurate measurements.. the oem will be better. think about it.. header diameters are different for each car. So the air volume flow rate is different.. yea the ecu can be resetted to compensate... but how good it will be compared to a sensor that's made for a 240? i think sensors cost that much on the norm. it's not surprising....
