Have you ever had a kit that haunts you mind? I have; the Ford Mustang 429 Boss. The story: As a teenager i read abou the Boss in a carmagazine. It was the badest,fastest,e.t.c. All the superlatives and the pics of the car amazed me. "-Whoa, what a car  .."

Some time later i found a kit of it. It was that car from the magazine!! I asked my mom if i could buy it. I certanly could NOT!! I did anyway :naughty:
Well, my mother found out, threw the halfbuilt kit :crying: as a lesson..
A while ago i saw the Boss again in my LHS. I slowly took the box and walked as in trance to the counter..
Ok, i throw in some pics before you fall

My intention is to build it as the car from the magazine i read as a teenager. It (must have been) was Grabber Blue, and was stock, apart from some really 70īs magwheels.

Mustang purist may look away here, since the engine is NOT Ford Engine Blue, the intake manifold is painted aluminum and NOT as the block e.t.c. And i who downloaded all those enginepics :banghead:

This is one of the best achievments on this kit so far, just look at that handpainted woodgrain!! Humbrols Sand and tinted with Hīs flat red. Just gorgeous, wouldnīt you say?

Interior is painted in black. The seatīs satin black is tinted with some aluminum paint for a different hue, which looks more vinyl then plain satin paint. Or?..

I think i have doīne enough for one day now. Sorry, the first pic doesnīt work, but it was so blurry anyway. More to come soon!!

Great progress! I'd like to point out that distributor, looks wicked! And the wood grain is unbelievable!

Wicked? In the "good" sense, i hope? The 1:1 distributor is quite low to clear the aircleaner, but i think that the leads look to thin.Maybe iīll change them to something slightly thicker..
The woodgrain yes.. I thought about using decals, but i didnīt have any in the right woodtype. As said, iīm very pleased with how it turned out!

Body pics this afternoon. Promise

Amazon, could you give us a quick few steps on how you did the woodgrain? Did you just lay the sand colour, dried, and then carefully brushed the red, or?

After a busy modeling weekend, itīs update time:
But first of all, after public demand, i tell you about that woodgrain:) Itīs one of those moments when something turns out much better than expected, but you really donīt know HOW you did it..
1> take some Humrols "Sand" number on lid:63
and some Humbrols flat red ( no. 60)
2>I used some fine brushes, you can use the ones you find suitable for the base, but for the graining, you need finer ones, like 3/0 and 5/0.
3> I`m sorry but i canīt give you any ratios of paint since i worked in "that looks ok"-mode when i mixedčm, but i used "Sand" as a base, not mixed. Then i took some drop of the red and mixed with some sand and painted it in a wawy maner. Look at real wood and you`ll see the lines follow each other. Try mimic that.
4> i worked in whats called "wet-in-wet" so the next mix was slightly more redish. Wet-in-wet is when you work so the paint under is still wet. This gives you a grain that will look convincing, and not like layers of paint.
5> Clean brushes. Make coffee. Come back and admire your work!

And this weekend i`ve painted the interior, body and chassis and started schratching the exhaust clamps and detailing the mufflers. Have taken pics, but i`ll post them when the exhaust is finished :)

Time for some pictures right?
First of all a pic of the Boss with her cool magwheels and primer.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62/Amazon-mannen/mockupBoss.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62/Amazon-mannen/grille.jpg
And here`s the grille. note that bulbs have been added ( made of clear styrene scrap ) Mustang-logo not yet detailed

And so time for slappin`on some color. I wanted Grabber blue, but i think this old "friend" , Tamiya TS 44 Brilliant Blue also works! But on the path to the perfect paint, something went slightly wrong :(
There are swirlpatterns in the plastic wich look like they`ve "etched" the plastic. Sanded and primered, painted color, sanded the color slightly with 3600 polishcloth, and a few layers of blue. Still swirlmarks :banghead:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62/Amazon-mannen/031f6690.jpg
Will wait a few days, the start with polishcloths again, and see if it gets any better :uhoh: Maybe iīll clearcoat it with Tamiya clear.

Ok, as a last treat, a during construction-pic. The molded-in brakeservo looks more like a horseshoe, so i had to whack it away and put 1,5mm styrene in its place. A servo from another kit will take it`s place.
