key stuck in ignition

OK, so my dad took my car to go get groceries, and heard a noise coming from the right rear wheel well. So he without telling me takes it to an autoshop. They said they wanted 750 to change a rotor and brake pad. My dad told me this and I was already pissed that he took it without my consent and told him I could do it myself. So I go to the shop to pick up my car, and magically they can't seem to figure out how to get the caliper back on. They say " We are sorry, we can't allow you to drive the car out of here, but do you want us to go ahead and do the Rotor, pad, and get a new caliper and have it set for you in a couple days" I said no, I want you to put my stuff back together so I can get it out of here. The guys says well we won't let you take it out of here witout a Tow Truck. So by now I'm already pissed off as all hell and want to smash all their faces in. So I say fine I'm getting a tow truck. So they lower the car, I see them in the Hood of my car, and I am wondering WTF is my hood doing open for a brake job. So now they come back in and say " Ummm sir, we can't get your car to start". Now I'm about ready to snap. First they cant get my caliper back on, now my car doesn't start. After a heated discussion with the mechanic and manager, the tow truck comes. We can't put it in neutral because the car won't start. So they have to jump it. Scott the mechanic says, O maybe it wont start because the hood has been open for two days and the bulb has been on the whole time, HMMMM ya think dumbass! Fianlly I get it towed to my house, and now the key is stuck in the ignition and I cant get it out. The black button that relaeases the key isn't working for shit.

So my question is, is there any way to get the key out of the ignition or am I fucked

Also, if I need a new battery, can I make the shop pay for all that or am I up shit creek

Damn I'm pissed too.

i would be making them pay for everything, i hate worthless assholes like this that do stuff when they dont know what they are doing. Why did they have the hood open in the first place? did you dad take it to some po-dunk shop? I have heard of a problem like this in a friends jetta, he ended up having to buy a new column and everything from a junk yard. I hope it isnt that bad for you but i cant help. What car was this on?

did you put the key in the ignition? or was that from them?

and like he was saying
id hit them for...

ignition
towing
battery
caliper
and down time from the car

and when its all said and done they'ed be waxing my shit

This was on my baby, my 240, which pisses me off to no end. And ya thats the point, there was no reason the hood should have been open. I can't get my damn key out and thats really pissing me off. It was at some Firestone place. Tommorow I am thinking of filing a report against them.

Once again tho, any ideas on the key

I know this is simple but enough play with the wheel while its off will lock it and the key wont come out or start the car up. Try just turning the wheel left or right and then try the black button. Also you can take off your lower steering column inside the car and pop the key retainer out and the key should come out if not. You have something way messed up on the inside of it.

Ya man, its not because the wheel had turned, something is actually wrong, they deffinately fucked it.

ok if its auto....take the shift release button out put it in neutral. Sometimes when my battery isnt connected to good and i try to start my car it will just click and the key will be stuck. I have to play a bit with it turning the key to the on then back to off position to free up the lock. Just keep playing with it. Start the car up then try it again.

if its manual.....have to play with the wheel. THis happend to me once. I have 3 240 keys, tried using the wrong key to start my car. Got stuck in there i was like wtf. At first the wheel thing didnt work. THen i just went on a rampage of jerking the wheel and walla key came out. THose ignition things scare me from time to time. Iv had to just leave my key in there before, then i come back another day and play with it and it will come out.

Hmmmm, I'll have to try the shift lock procedure as I have an auto, thanks for that piece of advice.

Well the good new is is the shift lock is out, the bad news is it was never there. So there is a possibility that they took it out, or it fell out somewhere

i would call the shop get a hold of the owner and calmly explain to him what happened and ask him what kind of buisness he is running. Tell him that they should not have run your battery down they should not have been messing under the hood for a brake job and they should have been trying to fuck you in the ass like the obviously were doing

What kind of shop is this? if they took out your shift lock thing for a brake job, they need to learn a bit more about cars and such..

Sidewayz, that actually made me chuckle. Ya, I've only heard about shops doing crap like this, never thought it would actualy happen. So I haven't driven the 240 in going on 5 days now, it sucks.

BTW: I have a new AIM SN if anyone wants to talk ever, its TheManWitaRed240, Prolly should be broken down 240, but o well.

I think you can make them pay for everything, and they should pay for the caliper cause THEY fucked it up. You go in with a car that is making a noise, you take it out without a caliper installed, dead battery, oh and the car doesn't run. Hmm, sounds like they fucked you over dude.

if you can get money out of the shop. ur good. but even if you cant. tell everyone you know not to go there. tell them what happened and how they fucked you like a bitch. it'll get out and they will lose business real fast.

there seems to always be a shop in the area that fucks everyone. off topic: but it seems like the people that dont know much about cars but think they do, say that the shops arent right. i actually took a few dealership mechanic classes, and the guys there knew what they were talking about. there are always lemons in cars are people though, as we know from my good ol' 240. RIP...burned November "04. that thing had so many elecrical problems it was death waiting to happen. i fixed 90% of em. but tit was too late........
