EGR coincidence ?mickkey3rd 04-15-2005, 09:07 AM Greetings folks A burned valve in the number three exhaust port is the reason I had to do a rebuild on the mighty metro. Oh well such is life. Anywhooo I noticed that the EGR passages were completely clogged. This got me to thinking, that the good folks who designed the engine pick off exhaust from the #3 cylinder, and it seems that old #3 is the cause of many headaches. Coincidence? Well, to be safe I retarded the timing just a bit. I think the designers use the EGR as more of a combustion cooler than emissions. I drive all highway speeds, so the combustion temp, and EGR valve are both running full bore. Hmmmmmm Check those EGR valves folks, or old #3 might suffer the same fate as mine. Joe mickkey3rd 04-15-2005, 09:10 AM Aaccck I meant to say advanced the timing!! Retarding would drive the exhaust temp up. Joe jason-1995fbody 04-15-2005, 08:33 PM hey thats no crazy statment mine did the same number 3 exh valve and cloged egr valve and ports crazy hu geozukigti 04-16-2005, 02:16 AM Common problem. Weird how it really only happens to the 92-94 3cyl's. I've not seem much problems with the 89-91's, or any of the 4 cylinders without EGR's. jason-1995fbody 04-16-2005, 09:26 AM yeah its a desin flaw i guess mickkey3rd 04-18-2005, 08:55 AM Greetings folks Yep, the mighty metro is a 92. Also I remember checking the plugs, they were all running hot, white in color. I did not change the heat range like I should have. That might not even have helped, come to think of it.
