View Full Version : Question from a future 240 owner... Question from a future 240 owner... Underground_Killah 04-15-2005, 12:50 AM i looked in the faq but didn't see anything about this. Chuki_breath 04-15-2005, 01:13 AM wtf you mean off boost???? your always on boost, it just depends what psi you are running. More psi usually means more fuel. Underground_Killah 04-15-2005, 01:28 AM well i mean like under 3krpm steady(not hitting high turbo) and simply driving steady Chuki_breath 04-15-2005, 01:32 AM if you mean stock boost. Well i would make the assumption that its just as good as any other jap engine out there. I mean there econo cars. I dont have an sr, so i really cant tell. But i would assume it gets good mileage. But it really depends on engine cleanliness. Air filter, spark etc... Underground_Killah 04-15-2005, 01:34 AM how about this way of rewording it... What gas mileage do people with sr20det swaps in 98 240sx's get? november-ice 04-15-2005, 01:39 AM lets look at how many ppl here have a s14 as i dont have on id hope for about 18-20 at 7psi Underground_Killah 04-15-2005, 01:42 AM well i want to compare it from the stock engine gas mileage to the swap mileage. Chuki_breath 04-15-2005, 01:53 AM it doesnt really matter what year the car is does it?? An sr is an sr. It would depend on the year of the engine, as they changed over time. Why do you want to know in the first place?? ARe you contemplating not getting an sr because of low gas mileage in this crisis of gas prices?? Put it this way its better than a v8's lol. Underground_Killah 04-15-2005, 02:18 AM it doesnt really matter what year the car is does it?? An sr is an sr. It would depend on the year of the engine, as they changed over time. Why do you want to know in the first place?? ARe you contemplating not getting an sr because of low gas mileage in this crisis of gas prices?? Put it this way its better than a v8's lol. that's not true.... each year has special stuff added to it which increases weight to power ratio in the vehicle which can affect gas mileage. I want to know because i'm in the research phase of the buying process. i'm contemplating alot of things with the sr but gas was the first one... i'm also wondering maintence wise what all has to be done to keep it up, and if you have to use premium gas with the swap. even 18mpg isn't "better than a v8" cause a v8 mustang get's about 18. SHIFT_KA24DE 04-15-2005, 04:21 AM seems like your concerned about details...well a swap is considered illegal so have you considered emissions testing? (if u have it) i think you can look up Sr specs for mileage. There shouldn't be a huge difference. Obviously, freeway mileage is more than city and driver characteristics play a big role so if you keep it under 3k... it's probably a lil' more than your average nissan 2.0 liter engine. -The Stig- 04-15-2005, 04:29 AM I average about 17mpg city, 24-26hwy. Best I've gotten on the highway was 28mpg, that was doing 70-80mph all day on the freeway(300+ miles) with maybe 5-6 miles of city... and a quick bullshit burnout. That's in my car... which is considerably lighter than most 240sx's... I'm around 2200-2300lbs with driver. So that should give you an idea. Chuki_breath 04-15-2005, 02:13 PM yea, but what im saying is the year of the car wouldnt really affect it that much at all. I mean you probably wouldnt even notice. Wow you get 2 more miles out the tank yippee!!!. Your gonna fill up when low regardless so it doesnt matter. 240SXSlideStar 04-15-2005, 04:25 PM If you are worried about gas mileage, get a hybrid car or something, stay away from turbos, V8s and similar engines. nissanfanatic 04-15-2005, 04:52 PM The engine isn't always in boost. I cruise at about 15in HG(vac) everywhere and hit about 10in HG(vac) accelerating. Where your foot is on the throttle percentage wise determines whether you boost or not. Its linear when you hit the right RPM which is prolly about 2500RPM to hit full boost. Look at the MPG of a sentra or NX200 or 2k(whatever it is) and that is prolly what you'll average. 91300zxtt 04-15-2005, 09:41 PM If you are worried about gas mileage, get a hybrid car or something, stay away from turbos, V8s and similar engines. Thats not for you to decide. He didn't even say he was worried about the gas mileage, just curious as to what it is. yea, but what im saying is the year of the car wouldnt really affect it that much at all. I mean you probably wouldnt even notice. Wow you get 2 more miles out the tank yippee!!!. Your gonna fill up when low regardless so it doesnt matter. 2 more miles is better than not having the extra 2 miles. You never know what kind of situation you will be in when the extra 2 would come in handy, so 2 more miles actually does = yippie nissanfanatic 04-16-2005, 12:16 AM My opinion on gas mileage is "If you have a job, you can afford gas," If you want more gas mileage than a 240 can give, then walk your ass wherever you need to go. Or you can just sit and complain about how high gas prices are. But personally, I would much rater pay $30 for 3/4 of a tank of gas than not drive my car or even worse, walk to work. 0.02c november-ice 04-16-2005, 12:29 AM i drove a 84 k5 blazer 350 8mpg and had to run 92 had to fill up every other day walking sux nisco 04-16-2005, 02:25 AM walking sux so did that car of yours :banghead: orestes 04-16-2005, 11:54 AM this is the stupidest thread ever... god damn it people cant you come up with something more entertaining for me to read at work november-ice 04-16-2005, 12:12 PM no i did a car swap with some one then he let some one barrow the truck and they toped off the trany fluid and blew the main seals now it just sits there and the truck i swaped for i blew the engine up shorty after so now im going to try my luck with an s14 this isnt HBO were !@#%&*$. Chuki_breath 04-17-2005, 11:34 PM [/QUOTE]2 more miles is better than not having the extra 2 miles. Im seriously gonna bring it back. and put this in there. http://benjanaway.users.btopenworld.com/Graphics/Kramer.jpg Are We still voting for nissanfanatic for president 2005. what happened to that idea?? Whos with me? TatII 04-18-2005, 12:36 PM gas mileage on boosted cars depending mostly on the driver. if you can manage to stay off boost. which most of us poor guys try to do, you can get quit good fuel economy. however if your always romping on the gas hitting full boost, and flooring it down the highway expect your whole 16 gallon fuel tank to only give you 150-175 miles for non stop abuse. on the opposite end of hte spectrum, you can drive really easily and stay around 2.5-3K rpm not giving it any throttle, you will hardly ever touch 0 on the boost gauge then you can get around 300 miles per tank. nissanfanatic 04-18-2005, 06:03 PM Word Tat. I used like 1/8th of a tank on a 5 mile run once. Hit boost prolly 50% of the time.lol That was actually the run where I popped that cheap coupler.lol LMAO. I might put Kramer back in my avatar. He is the best. orestes 04-18-2005, 06:51 PM lol ya but were you joking when you said "me run 93 too." that was funny to me i dont know if you intended it to be or not. "me never hit full boost and me get good miles" lol R.W.240 04-18-2005, 07:57 PM wtf you mean off boost???? your always on boost, it just depends what psi you are running.
