rear differential fill plug

I took my blazer in to get the rearend serviced and they told my that my fill plug was stripped, so I finally crawled under there to do it my self and the head of the plug was a 10mm or 3/8" allen wrench. I tried heating it up, hammering a bigger wrench in there and no luck. Anybody have any ideas ho to get the fill plug off?

On my 96 I used a 3/8" square socket extender as my plug had a square head instead of a hex head.

Have someone weld a bar on it and you will get it then.

they are squair,, not hex, and like chck said, its a 3/8

Use the 3/8ths rachet or breaker bar. Spray some wd40 around the threads and let it penetrate.
If It is too stripped and it just keeps slipping you can get a short extension, sand the chrome coating at the male end w/ some 80 grit sand paper, just to rough it up so you get a good bond. then put some jb weld on the end of the extension and in the plug. let it cure and that will do the trick. I would probably use that last resort cause your gonna ruin your check plug and an extension. Id use the breaker bar before the rachet cause over torquing the rachet is just not a good pratice.

Ive used wd. and it worked just fine. but yeah that would do the trick.

the difference with the two is wd40 isnt a lube, so once it has dried, the fluid friction from the 40 is gone, something like dri lube or pb is a penitrating lube, smaller molicules let it get deeper into the threads then some non lubracating stuff can

Lately I've been using old motor oil for penetrating purposes. It works great and it also combats rust!
