89 Toyota 4x4 PU turns over but won't startThunderocket 04-13-2005, 12:29 PM 4 days ago i went to start my 1989 Toyota 4x4 pick up the engine was turning over but it would not start. So I checked the fuel filter and it was loaded wit crud!!! So I replaced the fuel filter. I tried to start it again and it would turn over but wouldn't start. If I turned the key to"on" and wait for 20 seconds it would act like it was goint to start then the engine would just turn over.Does any one have any ideas on what's causing this? Hope so...Thanks fasttoyotapu 04-13-2005, 02:22 PM Chect your fuel filter again and then check your fuel system. You may need to take your car to a shop. But if you can handle it and have the right epuipment... pressure test your fuel lines. Also check your fuel pump and tank. Then check the lines from the fuel filter to the engine. If the lines are contaminated, you need to check your fuel rail and injectors. If you had a bunch of "crud" in the filter then most likely your fuel lines, in tank fuel pump, and possibly your fuel tank can be contaminated. Be careful if you are going to do this due to the explosive tendanies of vaporized gasoline. Thats why I would take it to a shop.
