67' Chevelle Pro Street *Superdetailed*

Thought I would takle one of the two most favorite modeling subjects for me in a super detailed format... Its the Pro Street craze..so I will be building this Chevelle and a 66 Nova.

Anyway, first things first, the motor. For anyone who follows my threads, you know I am a motor and engine fanatic. I love the details of the wiring, engine piping, etc... so I started by replacing the regular twin venti stack intake with a monster Morosso style street butterfly intake and a supercharger on top of a dual caburator set up. The Engine is fully wired and plumbed, at least to what I could replicate in scale.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0007.sized.jpg

Some of the attention to detail include a wired throttle linkage system from the butterfly hat to the carbs to the return spring. Twin nitrous lines fitted with A/N transverse fittings and machined aluminum belt pulleys. The belt is a mock up, I am going to go with a coggled rubber belt with manufacturer markings.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0009.sized.jpg

And yes, those are CAST METAL Moroso valve covers and aluminum breather caps. The butterfly intake is actually a painted buff aluminum tinted with magnezium metallizer. Looks real nice and has a very realistic sheen.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0008.sized.jpg

By the way, the chasis is just for holding the engine in place... it is obviously not the Pro street chasis I am going to be using for this project.

Engine block is candy apple red layered over gold base. I will be using accent colors throughout the chasis to highlight details.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0010.sized.jpg

Engine cradled in the body.. does it look just perfect?

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0012.sized.jpg

The details planned are:

- opening doors
- opening trunk
- functioning suspension
- rear fuel cell with relocated gas filler hidden in the rear panel
- spring loaded fuel filler door
- pro street/modern interior.

Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks!

If you could just get that throttle actually working... Looks awesome. We used the Moroso name on my oil pan project in Drafting. If this wasn't so shiny, you could probably pass it off as a real motor.

started working on the body. shaved emblems, primed the body, remove mold lines and started working on the mods.

First up are the wheels:
http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0001.sized.jpg

These are JPS Aluminum 3 piece wheels that are specially designed for Pro Street applications... I still debating whether I am going to be using those, but we will see.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0002.sized.jpg

Cut out the trunk and started working on fuel filler portion. I am going to be utilizing a dry sump race style fuel filler door/neck going into an aluminum gas tank.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album263/PICT0003.sized.jpg

Nestled into the opening you can see is a aluminum rod, at the end of which I plan on installing a fuel filler cap and door.

Shaved and smoothed firewall. All there is going to be is a brake booster.

The paint is on. Its a fusion of metallic silver, graphite and metallic black flake. The fade is from rear to front. Still needs to be polished and waxed, but other then that looks good.

I will post pictures of it tonight. Also some other surprises. ;)

Updates:

Paint. Many coats of color and clear, followed by polishing with progressive wet polishing cloths. followed by wax.

The paint is actually a bland of metallics... afade from silver metallic to black metallic pearl.. hard to see in photos but very noticable in daylight.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0023.jpg

see the fade?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0024.jpg

reflections... paint is almost perfect.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0026.jpg

Now you know I love this shot here :)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0027.jpg

Trunk. Optima yellow top battery is scratch built. I will write up a tutorial later on how to make one. Terminals are scratchbuilt from solder.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0028.jpg

the fuel cell is scratchbuilt from sheet sterene, added photoetched and metal hardware and fuel lines.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0028.jpg

By the way, the floor is covered by wrinkle paint by Krylon... a common 1:1 race car trick.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0029.jpg

Trunk is on:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0030.jpg

Decided to use these wheels... painted gunmetal. Thought it would go better with the theme of stealth..darkness..

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0031.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/slk320/PICT0032.jpg

Bad ass.... Very sleek, but I'm not a big fan of those wheels. Great work.

NOMADGAMER
04-25-2005, 12:05 AM
i love it...

but the wheels do not fit the car. some dull aluminum would keep with the theme and not be too noticeable, but i think any dark rim kills this car's appeal.

slk320
04-25-2005, 12:10 AM
hahahahaha I knew people are not going to like the wheels... we will see what happens. I just hate chrome so much..

I may have to get some more owkr done on those rims, but I think they will end up growing on you.

I have nothing against the color, but the rim design isn't so hot if you were to ask me. Maybe it's the Chevy badges.

JDOdoubleG62

should just leave the gunmetal inside and give a chrome lip on the rims.

slk320
04-25-2005, 03:21 PM
mostly just there to fill space :)

I plan on making a silver/polished lip for the rims...now that you guys insist :)

There are alot of new and innovative techniques I am trying out for the first time in this model...so I am kind of surprised that "rims" are subject of so much attention ...hehe oh well, I know how it goes.

Coming up next is interior work...going to be dual tone, light greay with dark grey inserts.

willimo
04-25-2005, 04:13 PM
I know that dark metallic paints are hard to photograph because for whatever reason, cameras pick out every last metallic flake and make the car look like a starry. I'm guessing this is with yours, since you claim a stealthy look? The paint work is awesome, the fade looks nice (I think - hard to tell in the picture) but the paint is most certainly some of the smoothest and shiniest I've seen. And for the record, the wheels are freakin' awesome. I would love to see this in person.

Wow that is an awesome car !!!! I love all the time and detail you put into the engine and trunk . I plan to do a trunk like that when I get my resin maverick bodies in so if you could write up a how to for that it would be awesome !

How in the world did you get that paint so deap looking ?
