View Full Version : shifting problem with 90..240 shifting problem with 90..240 Stevomr2Turbo 04-12-2005, 06:26 PM SHIFT_KA24DE 04-12-2005, 08:20 PM time to replace tranny fluid maybe? sounds like when your car warms up the oil warms up as well and shifting becomes smoother. Like everything else in the car... if it's cold... it won't work. zauber 04-12-2005, 08:45 PM could be your clutch. mine did that... only when it was cold out though. now, it gives me problems when i drive with grinding gears or not letting me into gears when the clutch is completely engaged. all my fluids were good i checked them first. also, it tries to stall out while idle. i'd just recommend check clutch. i could be wrong though. i'd probably care more about the problem if my motor hadn't just come in. nisco 04-12-2005, 09:51 PM check the clutch nissanfanatic 04-12-2005, 09:58 PM I would look into the slave cylinder. Mine also doesn't want to go into first sometimes, but I release the clutch, press, and it goes in no prob. Just the gears not lining up properly. 240SXSlideStar 04-12-2005, 10:10 PM Replacing the slave cylinder will stop the shifter from getting stuck? nissanfanatic 04-12-2005, 10:13 PM No. He also stated that if he puts the car in gear and starts it, the car will begin to go forward. Thus leading me to the conclusion that the pressure plate is not fully disengaging. It can also cause the car to not "want" to go into gear. Like trying to put the car in gear while not pressing the clutch in. 240SXSlideStar 04-12-2005, 10:16 PM Oh ok...so if the old slve is bad then a new one will let the clutch disengage all the way which in turn will let the shifter move more freely? nissanfanatic 04-12-2005, 10:20 PM Allowing the car to go into gear much easier and put less wear on the syncros. 240SXSlideStar 04-12-2005, 10:21 PM Alrigthy, thx. Stevomr2Turbo 04-13-2005, 01:51 PM hmm..sounds like the pressure plate alright.. once .. if i get it in first, lol the car wants to go forwardd.. today, i had to stop at a light, turn my car off, put it in firs,t and start it back up.. it shifts fine with the engine off.. no problemo.. just if the cars on... no shifting for me... so should i take it to a shop to have it looke at.. how much are we talkina bout.. thanks,s teve SHIFT_KA24DE 04-13-2005, 04:22 PM how about second gear? if you're just sitting there can you at least move the shifter into the other gears w/ the clutch depressed? or is it Just first? everyone says 'check the clutch'... what exactly are we checking? the synchro wear? if your synchros are still good you should be able to start from 0mph at 2nd instead of 1st. yes it is bad but it's a good way to check... if it just slips.... then you know ur synch's are gone. 240SXSlideStar 04-13-2005, 04:57 PM Sometimes I put it in 2nd and then 1st and it usually goes in, if I just stick it in first from neutral, it grinds or won't go in. nissanfanatic 04-13-2005, 05:27 PM Syncros are inside the transmission. If they are bad, you just get grinding when shifting. Chuki_breath 04-13-2005, 09:51 PM ^yea thats what i was thinking, i was confused for a sec. My bros doesnt like to shift into second when its cold. It starts up fine and goes in first fine, it just wont go into second. Once the car runs for a little it works normal. So is that a synchro or what?? It probably needs a new tranny(or a rebuild), my car shifts way smoother compared to his. Stevomr2Turbo 04-13-2005, 09:57 PM well.. with the clutch in.. it wont' go into any gears when the engines idling.. if i turn it off. it goes into all of them perfectly. its not just first.. i have no clue what it is.. i dont' know alot about trannies.. it doesn't seem to grind either.. just won't go in... nissanfanatic 04-13-2005, 10:43 PM Leave the clutch out and try putting it in gear. No beans right? Same principle. The pressure plate isn't releasing all the way. I had a friend with similar problems. According to him, the mechanics said he has air in his clutch line. But who knows what was actally wrong with it. Ford ranger, but same basic hydraulic clutch setup. Stevomr2Turbo 04-15-2005, 06:13 PM well. i think its a clutch adjustement know... theres that lil nut down by the clutch pedal, and u can spint hat thing out to make the clutch go in further.. i believe thats wha the problem is.. im just unsure of taking the clutch pedal off caue of that spring, i dunno how its hooked on there, and i don't want a mess and can't drive my car. lol. i have bad luck like that sometimes. so ne info or tips.. would b aweosome Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
