Looks sweet man, Did I hear you say that was the same one out of an H2?

Wait whats different about this block from your regular one? Maybe I just missed it in another thread.

CassiesMan

Bigger block.

Mr. Luos
04-12-2005, 05:54 PM
Basicly. That and this one is iron. Built strong with completely forged internals.
This is the same block as 6.0L GM trucks, including the H2. It is a bigger bore than the LS1 block, but still uses LS1 based parts.

Total cubes = 402

Let's hope that you've learned something from the import guys on the board :p: Go twin-turbo.

Mr. Luos
04-12-2005, 06:24 PM
I would never waste the money on a TT kit for this car. A nice T88 single is more than enough.

Compression will be around 10:1. Leaving enough so if I get a REALLY good job, I can toss on some boost. But until then, it should make 475-525 RWHP. I know, big range, but I am undecided with the heads.

Just watched it again.
The only time you can really hear my car is when I clean off the tires.
There is a race car warming up his tires as I am halfway down the track, probably mostly what you heard.

Yea I was just joking, with an engine that size a single turbo would be fine.

Wouldn't two medium size turbos spool up much sooner than a single large turbo?

That's nice! I've never seen a 3rd gen block tore down to the lifter valley! It looks.....different!

Anyways, what kind of heads are you leaning towards??

Right now, it might just have to run with the stock LS1 heads. Gonna create a bottleneck, but at least I can get her running.

Looking to AFR when I have the money.

I heard that. That's the kind of heads I want for when I'm able to build another motor.

The race ready AFR allum. heads would be awesome I think. You can get them with 2.10 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves, and 66 or 74 cc chambers. Sounds pretty impressive. They are like $1500, which is really not that bad.

Now Jegs makes heads too for SBCs, and I wouldn't mind getting a set of them either. They have a set in their current catalogue that has 2.10/1.60 valves and I think 74 cc chambers that make 650 hp on a 406 with 13.5:1 pistons and like a .680 lift cam. Now that's not bad at all!

Wow, I wish they made aftermarket heads for the VR4 :( stage 3 heads from Dynamic Racing cost $2400, and they're just reworked stock heads.

And Clawhammer, two half sized turbos would spool faster but with a 6L engine with heads and cams he's not goign to need all that much more power early in the powerband, when he wants it its there on tap.

Whoa..you're paying big money for that kind of horsepower. You coulda bolted on a supercharger and got 600rwhp. Or do you have plans on running FI on that motor and having like 800rwhp?

That's why the small block chevy is a popular engine choice for "weekend warriors" like myself, lol. Not saying you can't drop $2400 in a set of heads for a small block though, the ones on my car now probably would cost that--Dart Pro 1 cast iron, 2.08/1.60 valves, fully ported, they're cut, but not sure how much. The valve springs alone are like $300 a set (K-Motion, according to the shop where the heads came from, the best).

So even like the AFR heads I mentioned in a previous post ($1500) still are not ported and cut or anything, and that usually cost about $600 to get done, so there's $2100, lol.

To build a near 600 hp small block chevy, you can figure on spending atleast $6000--and that's if you already have a block, distributor, headers, fans, water pump, and all that kind of stuff. You can figure $1200-1500 for rods and pistons, a steel crank is pretty high as well, probably $500 or more, around $600 for roller rockers and lifters, $250 or more for an intake, say $2000 for a good set of heads, $500 or so for a carb., you get the idea.

Yeah but when you start making that kind of power, stock internals are going to break, and since he races his car regularly, he needs the heavier duty parts.

600 rwhp is nothing to laugh at. Alot of track only cars don't make that kind of power.

Cool. I guess with a 6 liter engine you already have lots of low end torque. What hp are you hoping to have in the end? What times are you aiming for.

Mr. Luos
04-13-2005, 01:41 PM
I want 12's here on street tires.
500+ RWHP.
Same with torque.
And guys, 402ci = 6.6L (roughly)

Yeah, it is a LOT of money. But forged LS1 parts are. This motor is capable of handling up to 1,000 HP, maybe even more.
A supercharger would have gotten my car to around 550 RWHP. For slightly less money. But at that point, I am still running stock internals, and starting to get them to their breaking point. I am going to have a complete powerband with this motor, unlike the torque curve I would have with the smaller displacement S/C'd LS1.

I think in the end, I will be able to pull S/C'd LS1 cars. If not pull, at least make it VERY interesting.
Plus, I will look stock under the hood, for the most part.

Talk about a visual difference.....

Intake/Exhaust

Gross Valve Lift = .629/.622

Advertised duration = 297/306

Duration at .050 = 248/254

Lobe lift = .3620/.3610

Lobe Separation = 113

I have been doing some research on twin turbocharging.

I used to think the same thing until I found a few things. Get on AIM tonight and I will share my findings. :icon16:

BTW 10:1??????/ BOOOO go 8.5:1 and run 26 PSI :evillol:

Man this is BS..... I post up a block I bought that came out of a MCLARIAN INDY CAR!!!!! and I get a few "oh thats nice, blah blah blah "oh you think you might hit 10's?"

Mr. Lous post up a block that came out of a production truck and everyone is like "'OHHHHH LOOK AT THAT, THATS PURDY, CAN I TOUCH IT, IT'S SOOOO BIG." Screw you hippies, Im going home.

nice block, finally someone has the balls to pull that alum. POS block out of a F-body and put a real cast iron block.

Mine is pretty. HA.

Mine will hit 10's. And I won't be needing a turbo. :uhoh:
Of course, not right away. Rear-end and suspension are next year.

Well I like yours too (gotta love turbo 6cyl lol) but his is bigger and he takes better pictures! Please share on what you found out about twin half sized vs. single turbo setups, if you don't feel like posting about it in here (hijack?) hit me up on AIM, Thourun is my SN.
