Hi dudes! I was just wondering how much max power you could achieve from the 180sx vehicle (might be known as 240sx in the US) by tuning the engine and adding external features such as bigger turbo, performance exhaust, etc. Plz tell me coz I have already started saving up for 1 and I am only 15...

Japanese engineers still say the R32 GT-R was still the "best" in development and car performance compared to the progress they made with the R33 and R34.

NOTHING is bad about the R32.... it's uber hot.

oh and this question is subjective. It depends on who's modifying it. The upgrades are endless and it depends how far you want to go. On average you won't tune a lightweight FR pass 500~ b/c you'll just end up losing traction and control, but like i said, if you end up tuning it for drag that can be easily fixed with bars, slicks, downforce, suspension alteration, etc....

i'm gonna go off topic alittle, there are a few fundamental flaws in a R32, its chassis isn't as rigid as the rest of the, they have a understeerig problem, their ATESSA ETS is very crude, their HICAS is not as sophisticated, and unless its a v-spec II, its brakes are horrible. other then that, excellent car. just hard to find one in good condition since they range from 89-94.

but for a SR, i doubt you will go anything over 700hp. the average high powered SR's are in the 400-500whp range which is already too much for a RWD car of that size anyways.

There are 1200hp 1.6 B16s out there, so the limit for the SR is damn high. (unless he meant streetable) and also, all cars in Japan are in great condition, lol, if you wanna find a good R32 you just walk down the street, the problem is finding one that's stock. :-P

Sure, wit unlimited funds and major turbo lag… you can make an SR have 1000 hp!!!
As a SR owner, 300 hp is more then enough for my driving habits. (don’t want to slide in some canyon narrow rod and die due to no rear traction)

you realize that this is mostly because the r31 wasnt offered as a gt-r dont you?

the top of the line r31 iirc is a 210hp rwd gts-r with hicas (not super hicas)

the r32 gts had (again iirc) 220hp rwd and super hicas so between the two equal models it wasnt that much of a change as you may think

the big accomplishment was for the gas crisis to end and the ability to make an all-out track car like the old gt-r cars back in the day.

i think a bigger change was between the fairlady z32 TT and the z31

the HKS 180sx drag car? i forgot what year that was but it had to be like 8 or 9 years ago right?

if i remember correctly, the HKS drag 180sx was RB26 powered, and it runs 7's.

Do any of you guys know the primary difference between a 180sx and 240sx (apart from the fact that one is American and the other is for the Pacifics)? Is one more powerful or has more torque than the other or is it just the same with different names?

wow, mad off topic rants... rofl copter. anyway, TRANCE101, we dont have 180sx's here in the states. we have 240s, which has the same chassis, and a similar body to the silvias and 180sx, but different motor. if you put an sr20det in or build and turbo the existing ka24d/e, it will cost about 7000 buks to get about 350 whp, give or take. youve got alot to learn about these cars, but its better than a civic and the other pos's out there, so stick around and read-up.
