I think making custom pipes and then buying a muffler is way cheaper. I say from experience that the custom pipes to me is a little faster then a cat-back system. The custom pipes w/ muffler cost me $260 and the cat-back cost me $450.

Word to RW. My downpipe was rigged as hell. The downpipe I made at home with caveman tools and a unshielded wire feed welder came out better than their POS downpipe.

I recommend getting a bolt on catback. When you really get into modifying your car, it is nice to be able to remove the exhaust system in 10 minutes.

if you have the money, the catback is definately the way to go, and if you dont, save up, 3" with a good cat-back, test pipe and downpipe youve got all you need, and the ones from reputable brands are tuned for sound and usually have fewer bends and longer straight shots for better performance and sound, because sound is very important too when it comes to exhaust. im working on recording my exhaust note and transferring it to my comp.

its not just about getting the job done, its about doing it right, and you can save so many headaches by buying a nice system that you can put on it 45 minutes, take off in the same time, and is designed for the car.
